Glow Plug Light (Newbie Diesel Humor)

Got my F350 in November. Been a few months now. Couple of goofy things related to driving it.

Waiting for the GP light. "Dad, you can start the car....we're in the Buick".

Pulling the boat home with the pickup. "Man...I need to buy better fuel, this thing sounds like a ... oh, nevermind."

Anybody else???

I drive a stickshift.

That has enough humor in itself.

All the times i've tried putting my foot though the firewall.

And then after I get used to the auto, shifting from reverse to drive while turning is amusing. cause i'll slap the shifter while i turn the wheel, and the shifter isn't there. THen gotta reach over and look like an idiot, even though I already pushed the clutch in.

I do the WTS stuff in gas vehicles, so funny.
Just naturally think to wait. its good though, fuel pressure builds up.

just think if you had a super duty, you gotta wait for the ding.

So you jump in an auto and try and start it with the door open and keep waiting for the dinger to stop dinging. hahaha.

Ever get in the car (wife's Toyota Camry Hybrid with the key fob transmitter and Push-to-Button) and can't find the key slot. Then remember...duh!

My truck is an Auto (so's the Camry) but I have to step on the brake pedal to activate the ignition.

Maybe I should buy a bicycle.

Fortunately, both my vehicles are manuals. No trouble there, but when I drive the g/f's truck it's odd. Feel like I am missing something.

I WTS almost all the time in any vehicle now. Can't get out of the habit. Mechanical memory.

funny

I had a water in fuel light so I drained the bowl, cleaned it out and filled it with diesel power and drained it a few times for good measure. Someone came home while i was doing all this and distracted me long enough for me to forget to close the drain valve. Took about 2 miles to realize what i had done. Now I have a stain of shame from my driveway all the way to the side street I stopped on to run up and close the drain valve.

Ooops.

The foot through the fire wall every time I get in my wife's car.

Spent a 1/2 hour trying to figure out how to start a vehicle to move it out of the way on the job site. There was a place to stick a key but it didn't turn - finally found a button to push. Hadn't see that since my old old FJ40 LandCrusier (pre seat belt era) - that one just had a push button to activate the starter and no key... Kind of like the old dozers and front loaders I use - just a button to start them and you have to pull up on the fuel peddle to get them to shut off or turn the throttle below idle to kill it.

My favorite is getting back in my truck after driving a loader all day and almost tearing off the turn signal trying to switch between forward and reverse!

I do the WTS thing too, no matter what car... I also find that I let them idle for a little bit to cool down before shutting down. Oh well!

Awesome thread. I've done all the above. The reaching for the stick when driving the wife's Buick, almost everytime.

Locomotive engineer for thirty years. At work it was feet in the window and newspaper spread wide open. Get in the truck it seems pretty funny to sit upright, can't put my feet in the window or read the newpaper.
