2 nights ago i made an idiotic mistake and tried out my 4 wheel drive on dry pavement and made a sharp turn. i tried to turn 4 wheel drive off after and was having some problems and shifted to park and it made this terrible noise, like a loud clicking. shifted to reverse, nothing. shifted to drive nothing. the truck starts and runs but will not drive or reverse. did i F up the trans?
4 wheel drive's on dry pavement and sharp turn's is not good. Can you shift it in and out of 4 wheel drive or is it stuck in 4 hi or neutral or 4 lo. I would think your transfer case made the loud clicking not the trans. If the 4x4 shifter is stuck,, get so pb blaster on it and make sure it and the linkage is free and moving . Hope this helps
If it won't move in 2 or 4wd, it sounds like you wrecked something inside the transfer case.
thats what i figured but my friend who's a diesel mechanic heard the loud clicking noise when i shift to park and said the trans is f-ed up. the trans is trying to shift but is grinding?? is there any way i could have messed up the trans or could it be the transfer case. and is there any way to find out without towing the truck to a shop?

i know very little about cars/trucks. i have an AWD (full time) mountaineer and am able to make sharp turns ( i read difference between full time 4x4 and part time 4x4 so now it makes sense ) i finally shifted out of 4x4 (the 4x4 light isnt lit anymore) and still wont drive or reverse. and its strange because when it originally happened. i shifted out of 4x4 and drive kicked in, so i parked. the next day i started the truck and the 4x4 light was lit. hope i didnt confuse you more. thank you i really appreciate it
Can you move the 4x4 shifter and is the linkage on the transfer case moving.
the 4x4 shifter has always been hard to move/ when i bought the truck the guy told me he had fixed the linkage because it previously wouldnt shift into 4x4
I would get underneath it and spray Pb or liquid wrench on it and work the linkage to free it up. These are hard to engage when are not free From what you are saying it sounds like the transfer case is in neutral or hung up between gears.

so this could possibly fix my problem? just spray some liquid wrench and the linkage? and what do you mean work it? the 4x4 shifter?
Yes , It must be able to move. Spray the linkage on the transfer case from under the truck and if possible have someone move it in 2wheel and 4wheel drive with the engine off but the key on so the 4wheel drive indicator will light up . I had a issue like yours but mine moved enough that I could get home and lube it.
I used the transfer case shifter to get out of 4x4 (light unlit) then I go to shift into drive and only revs the engine. I go to shift to park and that loud clicking noise happens. So I put it in neutral and shut off engine then shift to park. So that is the trans shifter, correct?
