a big cam, ported/polished/milled heads, headers, exhaust, and a fresh tune up, of course. that should probably keep you in the 2 grand range if you do all the work yourself. some other members will chime in with more details.

I agree with the cam and the heads, but you are likely going to adjust or rejet the carb as well. Keep in mind if you have to deal with any smogging you don't do anything that would hurt you there

96 is EFI, not carbed

FULL tune up, remove the air horns in the intake tubes (if still there) and a full true dual mandrel bent tubing exhaust with headers, and a smog pump delete (provided you do not have to go thru smog testing). If you have to go thru smog, you will need to do a cat back system.

After that it all starts costing more $$$!

Here are a couple good links on 460 EFI's

Oh Yeah!!!! With that being said getting it dyno tuned after doing a few mods will get you few ponies.

For a budget of 2k:
Exhaust (as mentioned above)
K&N air filter (cold air kits are nice but not necessary)
Tune up
headers
Roller rockers (if available)
Dyno tune

I think more than this would cost you more $$$$$, but if you are into DIY, and you wanted to port a little, I start with the exhaust ports because they are always a little restrictive, and then if you wanted look at the intake and possible port match to the intake. You could also look check the throttle body entrance as well.

IMO, at $1500-1700 for headers, muffler, and exhaust tubing, they are just a bit overpriced

I advanced mine yesterday to 12 degrees. Seems good so far. Third gear pulls sound better! As for a difference in mpg's we will see.
