took it on a short trip today, 3 miles at most, maybe ran 10 mins (ran inside station and back out) when i shut it off i heard a bubbling sound. opened hood and the upper rad hose was bubbling, dont think it had that much time to really heat up, although i do remember the temp gauge going to to the o in normal range pretty quickly on my return trip. put a thermostat in it about 150 miles ago, and flushed the rad out 1000 ago. any ideas if its just air or overheating? at a loss with this one, dont want to blow up my only ride!
When you say the "upper radiator hose was bubbling." did you mean it was bulging or that the coolant recovery tank was bubbling coolant?
The reason I ask is that it could be 3 different things. If the hose was bulging, it could be a worn out upper rad hose, or the thermostat is stock closed. In my opinion, a thermostat from a auto store is JUNK....May or not get flamed for that statement, but I don't care. I hate Stant thermostat's. I alway get the OEM thermostat form the dealer.
2nd, did you check the thermostat is boiling water before installing it? I've had 2 fail straight form the auto store and then the 3rd work for a short period of time before I bought one from the dealer.
3rd, If you know for sure that all of the above doesn't apply, I had my recovery tank boil over several times after the truck warmed up. I had performed all necessary maintance as you have. Come to find out, the head gasket for the driver side was shot and wasn't sealing well, allowing for combustion gases to blow thru the cooling system and then blow all my coolant out. And no, it never went above "O" in "NORMAL"
you could hear the bubbling in the upper hose, and there was coolant coming out of the recovery bottle. honestly i just threw the stat in, didnt check it in water first, truck took forever to heat up when i got it, thought a new one might help, which it did
