Weehls & Tires of a F100 1955

Hi all, I am new to this forum as I have started to work on a very orginal 1955 Ford F100. The truck was bought new by my fathers uncle in 1955 and it now has 45k orginal miles. My dad knows the truck from new and everything about it. It is very orginal but my dad did have a paint job / poor quality restoration. The truck has the 16 x 6.00 wheels and tires and i would like to go with a better driver tire. I think I want to go with a bit wider radial tire (I will put the OEM Wheels and tires on the rack and keep them).
Any suggestions on a nice driver set up for this truck that will still keep it looking somewhat orginal. I am not going for a wide tire modified look, just somthing that drives better then the 16x6.00 bias ply OEM tire set up.
Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Hey Little Red. Welcome to FTE the best Ford truck forum on the World wide Web!
I too have a family truck. I bought my 54 from grandpa in 1977. He bought it new.
I got the body fixed up and painted in 1999. I put radials on it. It rode nice but steered very very hard at alow speeds like when parking, turning to go in my garage , backing etc. You see, there is too much rubber on the road with radials. I had the fronts over inflated to make it steer easier. When they wore out I bought new bias ply tires with the pie crust edge , 6.00 × 16.
I glad I went to bias ply, they ride good and are easy to steer.
I suggest you start a new thread introduce yourself and show pics of your truck.
