3.31 gears pulling 5th wheel ????

IMHO< the 3.31 gears come with a 2WD F250 truck, and you get 3.55 gears with 4WD. At any rate, my friend and I both have 3.31 gears and pull 5rs. We made a 3000 mile trip to Yellowstone last September and we were both delighted with the trucks' performance - 68 MPH (According to GPS) on cruise - 11.2 MPG for the round trip Actual). Remember, peak torque with this engine is at much lower RPM than previous engines. Also, tihs truck has 2 overdrives, both 5th and 6th are overdrives and the torque converter stays locked up when shifting between the 2 gears. Compared to my 04 6.0L, it's night and day different (and I thought the 6.0 was great coming from a gasser)!

Fellas,
I am looking at purchasing a 2012 F250 XLT FX4 with 3.31 rearend. This particular truck is available and falls right in my budget AND is exactly what i want minus the 3.31 rearend. My preference is to have the 3.55 for a future 5th wheel/tractor gooseneck trailer. But after reading this, sounds like the 3.31s is not a problem..also, i will seldom tow anyway.
They will sell this for about $40K. Thoughts????

I just ordered a new F350 asked about pulling my 14K 5th wheel with 3.55 gears. I was told it would pull fine. He called me back and told me he could not get me 3.55's and my truck would come with 3.31 gears instead. I expressed concerns and he checked with Ford and was told that 3.31's were fine for my application. Can anyone verify this????
