ZF5 from a 351w to my 300

Unless you're 100% sure the tranny is tight I'd take it in for a bench rebuild before I installed it too. The shift forks on mine were cratered and I ended up spending a few hundred extra bucks having the shop drop and reinstall the tranny after I found out my "like new" ZF was worn out...[/quote]
BTW, do you remember the approx. cost for the rebuild?

Well, FWIW, Summit lists one flywheel for the 300 that fits 80-96 models and works with 10 and 11" clutches.

When I swapped mine I bought a new flywheel for a '91 F250, but as far as I can remember the new clutch set would have bolted right up to the stock flywheel.

Is the pressure plate specifications the same for the 300/351w?
I know I have to have a 164 tooth/28oz flywheel, to do the swap...
My question is does the 10" clutch mean issues whereas the 11" clutch is the correct size for the 351w?
Also, given that I simply bolt the 351w flywheel in, and buy a new 11" Clutch, is the pressure plate different? Just making sure so I don't tear it apart and get screwed....

According to my (limited) research, the clutch/pressure plate are the same for a 300 or 351W with the ZF. This would leave the flywheel as the only difference, neutral balance for 300, 28oz counterweight for the 351W.
The 10" clutch for the 300 was used with the Mazda 5 speed. No idea if it would be anywhere near useable with a ZF. I doubt the 351W flywheel even has mounting holes for a 10" clutch.
Every flywheel I find listed for the 300 is the same from mid 70's thru 96, and says "10" or 11" clutch", so maybe the ZF flywheel isn't any different. I really don't know.

It's *possible* that the 351W flywheel could have mounting holes for 10" clutch.
It's also quite possible that the ZF 11" clutch could work for the M5OD.
However, the M5OD isn't going to be very happy behind a 351W for very long. It could last many years, or just a few weeks. There is a reason ford didn't use this as a factory option......
