Extra wiring harness by the jack

I recently got my 07 expedition, and there is an extra harness that is in the back in the jack compartment.

Does anyone know what this is for?

It looks like it may be wiring for the trailer brakes, but I already have the 7 pin installed.

Thanks in advance.

It's for a brake controller.

huh... I was under the impression that a brake controller simply plugged into a harness under the steering wheel.

The harness that you found is the other end of the plug that is under the dash. The pigtails wire to the brake controller.

Sweet. Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I am lucky it was still there.

Yeah, it definitely makes wiring a brake controller much easier. It's not impossible without it, but it sure is nice to have.

If you get one of the state-of-the-art Prodigy P3 controllers you can get an $8 optional pigtail that makes it plug-n-play. Otherwise you can just splice the standard pigtail to the Ford pigtail and get the same wiring. I spent the eight bucks. No splices.

The plug-n-play harness is definitely worth it...my Tekonsha P2 was installed in 5 minutes.
