turbo ????
and thanks for the replys. As of right now money is real tight and i need the flat bed for work. i got the topend pulled off and though i might as well turbo it while i was at it.. so the cheapest most complete is wat i was looking for.
i take it no one has rethought turboing there truck
It's been 17 years since 1994 when the last IDI was built.
The IDI trucks out runnin' the roads now are either work/farm trucks that get the snot beat out of them daily and the owners don't mind working an old rig hard.
Or, they're in the hands of enthusiasts such as ourselves, who are "Weekend wrenchers" who enjoy tinkering with a pickup and having some pride in some "Old school Iron".
None of us have very deep pockets, so out of all of us here....who has bougth a brand new turbo kit within the last couple years?
Probably very few, if any.
A used turbo kit can be had for 1/2 the price of a new turbo, or maybe even less. You have it rebuilt, and it's still cheaper than buying a new kit.
Even if they made a way for the 3000 kit to work on an IDI, who will buy one? My pockets aren't that deep, and this truck runs fine bone stock N/A...hard to justify such a steep price tag.
I'm just trying to put myself in their shoes...and see what they see. It's not worth it to them to put a lot of time and money into manufacturing parts/kits for an old engine that is "kind of" obsolete in the aftermarket...only to sell a few dozen and "maybe" break even. Their time would be better invested in developing Powerstroke parts....because they're are a lot more of those on the road with owners that have deep pockets.
Hahaha, you gotta think...most Powerstroke guys are the pansy type, they wouldn't wanna ride in some 80-90's pickup with no A/C. Ohhh, poor little guys! They want their premium sound systems and fancy seats and carpet too I suppose. Pansies!
I'll stick with my no A/C, no carpet, vinyl bench, and barely any sound-proofing truck, thank you very much!
Back to the topic on hand, I like Wreck's statement there. Being N/A myself...I wouldn't know the different between an ATS or Banks unit if one was installed on my truck. The extra power would be such a substancial gain over N/A that you probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference of 10-15 HP if there is such a difference between the two turbos.
From what I've read on here, the kits are a little different upon install, but I doubt you'd be cursing one over the other. Pick whichever one you want, or can afford, and run with it.
