40/20/40 to Captain Seats - Any issues to be concerned with?

Hi Folks,

I have the opportunity to pickup a set of Lariat Captain seats to replace my 2002 40/20/40 seats.

Before I look further into buying them,,, I'm wondering if there are any issues I should be aware of.
Will my existing 40/20/40 flip-up console/third person seat interfere with the arm rests or does it need to be replaced with a Captain seats console?
Any other issues to consider?
And what years of front seats are actually interchangable with a 2002?

Thanks,
Rick...

I believe if you want the jump seat in the middle, you'll need to remove the arm rests. I'm not sure about the wiring connectors for the power seats.

I just purchased that exact set up except I had a bench seat I was replacing. The person I purchased mine from replaced his Lariat seats with a 40/20/40 ( he said the center console from the 40/20/40 would not work.)

It was good for me and bad for him.

My truck is a 2001, His truck was a 2000 worked perfict. I have looked into it and from what I was able to find pretty much all years on the 1999+ superduty will work for seats. The only thing is getting power to the conector if it is diffrent and the Stupid seat belt minder light.

The torx bolt is a t-55+ ( a little over sized ) make sure not to strip the head. I replaced all mine w/ 12-1.75mm bolts front should be 35mm long and back is 40mm long

I believe all the seats and consoles are interchangeable from 99 up. My truck had 40/20/40 and I got the big center console from a captains chair setup and it bolted right in. I don't think there is any difference between the seats other than the arm rests. I do not think you can use the arm rests with the 20 seat in place, you would have to go to a console. It sounds like you want to change seats just for the arm rests, I would consider leaving the seats and go with a center console from an 08 and up. It is big enough you do not need arm rests. Look in my gallery for pics
of this console installed with the regular seats that came with the 40/20/40.

40/20/40

Stock Seats "Fake Captains Chairs" (without arm rests) and console.

Thanks for the input gentlemen.

It sounds like I'll have to pass on the captain seats. I like the flip console/seat as it is and have no interest in replacing it.
The set of Capitan seats I was looking at are in very nice shape and reasonably priced, but I was only considering them since my original drivers seat is showing a bit of wear on the edge nearest the door were I slide in and out all the time. With the lift on the truck combined with the small Kodiak power steps I'm pretty sure the edge of the seat takes a bit more abuse than it normally would.
I actually think the 40/20/40 flip console/seat makes a great arm rest as it is so I doubt I would find the arm rests on the Captain seats any better.
I might even look into just replacing the seat cover itself since the rest of the seats are very good shape.

I wonder if you could switch the brackets and rotate your drivers and passengers seats to even out the wear? I do not know if its possible, just a thought!

Hmmm. I might have to look into that as my drivers seat feels a bit broken down on the left side.
I just took my center seat cushion out for the extra space, no need for the "20" seat. I also like the height and utility of the flip up console. Not sure what to put in place, maybe an aftermarket console, or one from the factory.

You might be able to switch the seat cushion, But the whole seat I doubt.
Adjuster, tilt, etc.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. The adj and all looks like it on the frame, all I would have to do is cut the hog rings if that is what Ford uses and transfer the foam and cover. Not that hard to get seat out, will definitly consider that this weekend.
Just not sure if the breakdown happens to the springs or the foam, but one way to find out!
