gas gauge sender.

gas gauge sender.
anybody have any idea what kind of Resistance a fuel gauge sending unit might be putting out different levels? like full, empty, or half. I troubleshot my gauge by jumping it to ground briefly and it moves to full, and my new sending unit reads different ohms at different levels, just they are not working together, Just wondering if LMC might have the wrong part listed for my truck like a gauge for a 12v instead of a 6v

There are three common sending unit ranges:
0-90 Ohms - Most GM
240-33 Ohm - Many Ford and after market gauges & senders
10 -180 VDO gauge Range
In addition there is:
0-30 Ohm - early GM
75-10 Ohm - Late Ford
There are also other ranges from the off-shore makers.
Needless to say the sender and the gauge have to be matched. If you have a VOM you can pretty easily determine the range of your sender. Determining the range of your gauge is a little more difficult but can be done with a variable resistor.
