I have a 2006 F150 5.4 3v rattling and shaking excessively. I have installed two new cam phasers, two vct solinoids, two vct housings, flushed oil and installed motor craft oil and filter. This never happens if bank two vct is unplugged or in open loop. Monitioring vct's on ids only bank two is erratic. Any help would be appriacted. Also when I had vct housing off I blew regulated air through oil passage seems free.
Did you install the new cam phasers because of this problem? Or for some other reason? What I'm getting at is, could you have gotten the cam timing off on bank two?
The vehicle came in with this concern I first replaced vct soliniod, then phasers, then replaced housing. the timing is correct,it runs great til the vct are activated then it starts.
it sounds like you may have low oil pressure at warm up,and at low idle they tell me that it takes 25 lbs of oil pressure at idle to keep your phasers from rattling i found that i had low oil pressurer so i will try a little heaver oil before i dig any deeper!!
have 2007 f150 5.4 31000 miles with same prob. at low rpm such as toll booth stops truck pings and shakes like a diesel, only when warmed up and not all the time
it sounds like you may have a vct seliond that is bad, do you have a check engine light on if so have it checked,I find it hard to believe that you would have low oil pressure like mine,i did go to 10-40 oil and as of right now i have had no problems,no more rattling
