1966 Deluxe Camper Special "RANGER"

seeing as though this is my 500th post I would post a few pics of that non-existent RANGER. LOL

Last fall I put it up here for sale with no takers so stored it for winter. Then the crap started that it must not exist because of no pictures. 2wks or so ago the Ranger came out of storage and because our house sold and a big MOVE in the works decided to spend some $$ it would have cost to ship the Ranger to its new home on it instead.

1500.00 quote to ship the non running truck and its parts to the new home was a bit more than I wanted to spend. Seeing as though gas would be in neighborhood of 425.00 for fuel to drive it that would give me nearly 1100.00 to spend on parts etc to make it driveable. Mind you this was a nice complete truck when I bought it but removed the core support for another truck thinking it would be simple to replace it. It had also lost a lobe on the camshaft making for a nasty mis-fire.

My oldest daughter who now has her driving permit and license soon offered to drive it to its new home if we fixed it up together. I learned to drive in a 66' F100 many moons ago and she and other kids practiced and learned how in the pasture in my 1965 Slick. I thought it was very fitting for her to drive this Ranger to the new destination in a SLICK caravan... More on that later.

Because this truck has sat for 11yrs it needed a little attention.

1. Engine was out along with front clip being off

lets just say like most projects this get it going FAST turned into a much larger but fun project.

Belts, hoses getting a bit dry as the fuel system needed some going over and a engine and trans added.

Radiator had a minor leak and plan on installing the A/C for those hot summer days. Sand blasted core support and painted it then the aprons looked neglected, blasted and painted them, what about the frame....

I had a set of A/C brackets for radiator mount but needed another set. My daughter and I decided to just make a set as a fun father daughter project.

Found a piece of 16ga metal in corner drew it out and went on to copying of the originals. They look like they belong there!

pics soon as they are now uploading. These are the INVISIBLE truck pics for starters...

Rad Cap
Fuel pump
Alternator
Distributor
Master Cyl
Water Pump
Starter (with headers its a good idea)
Oil and temp senders
Coil (old one was cracked and arcing)
Cap & Wires
Plugs
Now its time for a complete brake job

Boss,

Looks like things are coming together well! I think it's great that your daughter is into helping you. She's learning things she won't learn in school. I'm subscribing to this thread.

Best of luck,

John

TKS! This will give her some great memories about these trucks. She says she is already getting very attached to it! If I can get it going in time and she drives it to the new destination 1400 miles from here I am sure that is something else she will love and remember.

Getting close to firing it up, just finished getting the column back together. One bucket seat is installed. No carpet or flooring for now as time is running out.

Hoping to actually fire it up yet this evening.

I should have explained better. It mounts the large A/C radiator to the 66 core support with room for the condenser. I will get some pics.

Still have not found a place in AZ yet with a decent shop. Thought it would be simple with 50,000+ homes on the market. Only have a couple weeks left now before I have to start loading tools and equip.

Pretty hectic around here but try to get in a few hours on Ranger.
Possible today will be the day to get it fired up.

Another day or so on it and if its not going have to get to other things and will just haul it to AZ.

2wks or so left of having a garage and then will be garage-less. Not looking forward to that with so many projects but AZ is calling me.

more pics soon and some video if I can figure out how to post it.

BOSS9- Yes that 65 is the one I was thinking of.I remember the power drums and the head-light enhancer(super ground strap!).I for one believe you have that ranger that was never made along with that orange paint that Ford didn't use! You Go Big-Daddy! Although I would'nt wish moving on my worst enemy(done that too many times),I do wish you a very good and uneventful trip.
