Another TPMS ?. Very unusual, need advice.

My TPMS warning light comes on when pulling my 5'vr. Never come's on when driving without trailer. 18" tires are set at 80psi rear and 65psi front, as recommended by Ford. Had dealer's input, but no help. It's really not a big issue, just annoying to have to OK it each time I start up. If it did this all the time the dealer said they would change them out for new ones but, because it only does it when towing, their as confused as I am. Has anyone else heard of this issue? Thanks

Seems kind of strange to me...

Have you checked your tire pressures with your trailer attached? That'd be the fastest way to see if something is wrong or your pressures are just a bit low. If you have a tire that's right on the threshold I can see your TPMS light being a bit funny.

When pulling trailers I would run both fronts and rears at 80 psi. Try that.

Keeping in mind the max psi on the sidewal of the tire.

"TPMS Warning.."

Low Pressure Warning
or
TPMS Broken warning?

My Escape had a "sender" issue.... that had to be replaced.

Isnt the std threshold 65 psi? Your fronts are to low, when trailer is on might be takin just enough off. Try 80 up front, leave rear at 85.

I think 80 is the max on all oem tires. I never run 80 in the front, usually 70 and maybe 75 when towing and with a cab full of adults.

You might try rotating your tires and hooking the trailer up to see if it still sets off the sensor.

Look at the sidewall to verify max psi...I don't think it 85 is it.

Good info from you guys, thanks. I did a 50 mile trip this morning, without a trailer. Changed air pressure up & down and had no TPMS warning. Got back, hooked up my stock trailer, drove a tractor in it for weight and within 5 miles, had the warning message. Next step is rotate tires, put 70 in front with 80 in rear. Hopefully that works.

I want to say this is the only issue of importance I've had and it's a very minor one at that. This truck exceeds anything I've ever had. It's an incredible vehicle which I greatly appreciate.

so maybe it is a TPMS sensor error if it still happens after rotation.

I would set the pressure to the rated max also and then try it with the trailer attached.
