Ok so my stock temperature guage doesn't work right. So my question is what all will I need to put an aftermarket temperature guage? Also I just want to make sure that when burping the cooling system I can just leave the radiator cap off. Thanks
The stock temp gauge is more accurate as a "weather gauge" than it is at reading your coolant temps, just decide if you want a mechanical or electrical temp gauge and replace your factory temp sending unit with the new unit, pretty straight forward.
Are you sure it's the gauge and not the sending unit? I just replaced mine yesterday and it solved the problem. You check the connection at the sending unit and pull it to ensure there is no debris that may be shorting the ground out.
As for what you need for an aftermarket gauge, I would assume the instructions will be with it, but at the minimum you will need a good ground. Sorry, not the expert here!
When you "burp" the cooling system always remember to refill it slowly or it will burp out the cap opening as it heats and the thermostat opens. In otherwords, leave the cap off to allow the burp. Good luck!

Also, you can test the gauge by pulling the lead wire from the top of the sender on the manifold and grounding it with the key turned to the on position. if the lead wire and the gauge are good the gauge will peg to the hot side. Then you would know it's the sender.
