Wooden Bed And Bed Sides

Hey Guys, The Idea just hit me yesterday, What about a wooden bed and bed sides. I figured since my project is going to be mildly custom, why not go a little farther. this guy made nearly exactly what I had drempt up.

Be neat to stain it and finish it off real nice with the painted steel fenders on, put the steel tailgate on, and maybe some custome engraved slats above the bed rails..... I consider myself to be handy with pretty much anything and everything I can get my hands on (especially wood)... But the real reason why I posted this is because I wanted to see if anybody had seen something like this before, and if it turns out nice. It all sounds good in theory, but you never know.

Thanks for your time guys!

I have seen all wood beds before but I think that this is the first I have seen that so closely matches the shape of the original...very nice craftsmanship! Those Chevy guys seem to have an affinity for wood... :~) On another note, I have a friend who does wood graining...he could take a metal bed and make it LOOK like this bed.

Wow,that is really beautiful. But,I'd think it would really only work if it was a show, or fair-weather only truck.Be a shame to ruin such craftsmanship by hauling stuff in it.

I saw one at the Raleigh NC show last yr. they made black painted brackets and bolted the wood to them with SS carriage bolts with SS acorn nuts. It was on a 30-31 Model A, rear nice craftmanship. The bed floor was tight like all of them are. but side panels were spaced apart a little. I'll try to look up the pics

I like it but doubt you would want to throw crap in there. Its your truck, if you like it do it. It will look good period.

Aparently great minds thing alike, His bed looks gorgious, He's also got some seats in there that look kind of framiliar, I was going to put the newer 2000's Tahoe/Suburban/Trailblazer/ or Explorer seats in mine

CharlieLed, It takes quite a talent to do that kind of work! Its also funny that you say that, because I always used to be a big chevy fan, although now im much more open to fords.... still not too sure about those dodges though.

I also dont plan to haul in the bed, mostly for show and play

Painted wood grain is very cool to see. I once saw an early 50's Rambler station wagon at a car show turned into a woodie like that. It was absolutely incredible. I had given some thought to having the portion of the dash/glovebox door in my Merc pickup that is normally argent, woodgrain painted. Being a Mercury, which was always a more upscale version of a Ford, I thought it would be kind of cool. I'd do the deluxe cab door trim, as well, to go with it. I think might be rather classy.
