Any way to test an HPOP before changing it ?

Guys- I just got my 99 SD back after almost a year hiatus. Bad tranny and no $$ to replace. Got a new Ramco heavy duty, but that's for another thread.

The tech told me my small. persistent oil leak from the rear of the block was probably the turbo pedestal AND the HPOP gasket. He seemed to think that both were leaking a little.

I've got 205,000 original with pretty routine maintenance.

My questions:

1.) should I r&r the HPOP when I do the gaskets ?

2.) any way to test the old HPOP to see if it needs replacing ?

You need a scan tool that will read the ICP (Injector Control Pressure). That will be the PSI of high pressure oil the HPOP produces. You should see around 500 psi at idle and on a wide open throttle run, 60 to 90 MPH up a grade, a late 99 with a very good HPOP will put out between 2500 and 2800 PSI. If you have an early 99 2300 to 2500 would be good. Early 99 will have a Manufacture date on door sticker between Jan 98 and Dec 98. HPOPs can be modded to put out better ICP without the expense of a total replacement.

Post back where you believe the HPOP is leaking. There are a couple places with different fixes.

If you can't test it before wanting to replace or reseal this would be a cheap option to get more performance and have all new seals as well.

I would personally see if you have someone close that can data log your HPOP first though since it may be fine. Then you could just reseal it yourself.
