changed trans motor

grinding not has bad.but still there..my ? is before i start chasing parts $$$ what would happen if i just drive it untill the iwe acuator gears burn out..

What would happen? The IWEs would wear off their teeth and you'd have no 4x4. They might also wear the teeth on the wheel hubs to where they would not work when new IWEs were installed.

If you have to drive it before you can find the problem and fix it, disconnect and plug the vacuum line between the engine and the solenoid. That will stop the grinding untill you can address the repairs needed.

Yes, the write up mentioned above by 60DRB is the way to go. These systems are very easy to check out and all you need is a vacuum pump and a guage and about an hour to an hour and a half.
