V-10 gas mileage
Hello All,
Rookie here, I bought a 2004 V10 250 4x4 crew cab in Cali. I live in Colorado, when I was in Cali I was getting 13.5-14 mpg now I am lucky to get anywhere near 10mpg. A buddy told me that it is because the truck is tuned for California emissions.
I wanna know what are my options to tune the truck for higher altitude. I have heard people tell me chips and tunes I just wanna know what y'all think is the best option. Or any other great Ideas.
Thanks

A tuner is about the only thing you can do. I have a 09 V10 and I am getting 11.5 MPGS here in Los angeles, County California. This is without a tuner (I still have a warrenty so no tuner yet). People say the are impressed with 5star tuner. Do a search on here call him and ask questions. There isnt much you can do as far as after market add on's to a V10.

I've heard of people getting their engines re-tuned for elevation, but I'm not sure how it works or even if it is necessary on these newer engines. I recommend talking to a Ford Dealer about it and seeing what they say.
Another question to ask yourself: What is the terrain like where you are now compared to Cali? My very limited time in Cali (LA area) was very flat, while CO is more "unlevel". I live in the Seattle area and pretty much nothing is flat around here. I can get 15mpg going down the highway at 60mph, but it drops very quickly to 10mpg on even the smallest hills.

i cleaned my MAF(used CRC spray-made to clean MAF) and changed my air filter. i also put in Mobil 1 full syn oil and pulled my brakes down and cleaned and lubricated the slides-it need that. It gave me a bump in MPG from 10 to 12 in town. i will not put in a turner yet since i am under warranty also. next i am going to change my fuel filter. good luck.

I drove from Grand Rapids MI. to Detroit and got 12 mpg with the cruz set at 75. The time before that I had it set at 70 and got 11.5. Tires must have been low. I read some where that the best things to improve your mpg is to have your tires at the right pressure and to set the cruz. Less on and off the gas while your driving.

I just did that drive at 75mph and got 12.2mpg. If I got 15mpg or better, I'd do the gorilla dance on my roof in the middle of the highway.

I would first try a 5 Star before anyone elses. They seem to have a good handle on what works.

You have a heavier truck, an auto trans, drove faster speeds, use a 3 valve V10 and did this trip recently with fuel that was probably 10% ethanal. I did this trip back in 06 in September in 60* temps and didn't use watered down fuel. Most my hiway driving has been in the mid to high 14's. I've never got 12's on the hiway, only in city/county short trip drives.
Has anyone tried the BullyDog GT tuner on the V-10? I think I'm going to order one tomorrow
