Detroit locker or truetrac rear?

As the title says, what do y'all prefer? The Detroit locker or the truetrac in the rear? My truck will be a daily driver, but will see some pretty decent off roading. I've only driven one truck with a Detroit Locker. The only time you could tell it was there is when you got on and off the accelerator. It turned just fine and made no noise. I'm just not sure how it will perform in a truck as short as mine(regular cab, short bed). I will be ordering the rear end parts next week or the following week so I can get that out of the way when I put the rear springs on the truck. I would like to hear from the guys running a locker on a street truck. Also would like to hear from the guys running a truetrac or similar LS off road. Price isn't an issue either. I am not concidering the selectable lockers such as ARB or the ELocker.

In the rear always go full locker if it will see any off road.

A LS is worthless off the street.

I'm running a Aussie Locker in the rear of my 94, love it, it just makes some odd noises sometimes. But I wouldn't trade a locker for a LS.

If you want a LS slap one in the front

I already have a truetrac in the front Dave.

Also, if you don't mind me asking a stupid question.. This is my first build of an off road truck. Why is the LS worthless off road versus a full locker?

You get it flexed out a bit, and that one tire will sit and spin just like a open diff. They work ok on flat ground, but get one tire in the air, and there you sit.

But the truetrac dosn't work the same as a LS , no clutches , when it locks , its like a spool with no slipage isn't it ? , i now it needs power behind it to lock , so not sure what it would do with one tire in the air.....Lew

Nope, it never locks, the true trac doesn't work like most think. The tire with least traction still spins, I have video to prove it.

Idk if this is the right vid, I'm on my phone right now and it won't play it. But anyways, if it is right, the Bronco, has a true trac in the front. Its getting a detroit soon.

I have a Detroit locker in the back of my 85 bronco which has close to if not the same wheel base as your reg. cab short box truck. sometimes it makes a loud pop if you lay on the gas coming out of a turn on pavement, and it does pull me around a little going 75 on the highway, but not enough to make it bothersome. other than that, the only time I notice is when i am getting the traction i need off road!

Ya, on the street they would be alright. I still would rather have a locker street or off road.

Looks like I will be probably go with the full locker in the rear. Should I have skipped the Truetrac in the front and got something else? Sounds like I probably should have. LOL

Never had an air locker, but thats my plan for the front of both of my trucks. from what i have heard they are the same as detroit lockers in the sense that some people like them and some don't. Only bad things i've heard are about air leaks.

That's why I'm not going to run an ARB right now. The other selectable lockers don't seem like they would work all that well(Elocker).. I want my on board air running my air tools and only my air tools. It does seem like it would work the best for the front, but not sure I want to waste that kind of money on a TTB right now.

I think a LS will be better for the TTB than a locker.... BUT, I'm thinking about a Power Lock LS for the front of my 94. Its, a clutch type LS with 90-95% lockup that's rebuildable too.
