Need Help! 4R55E/96 Explorer

ok alittle back story. this is a heavy duty rebuilt tranny that was done at 107k miles. it shifts great 1-2-3 no other issues. this all started after i was rearended and it shorted out some backuplights i had connected to the backup lights w/out a fuse(i know i know stupid) which blew the fuse for the backup lights which that fuse also controls the O/D. i will admit i had alittle higher amp fuse in there then i should..15 VS 10.

after blowing the fuse i lost o/d and everything else on that fuse. replaced it everything else came back but no O/D. so i had the solenoid replaced and it still did not fix the issue.

so i'm getting the code P0761 which is the overdrive shift solenoid. i had it changed by the same guy that rebuilt it at 126k miles that did not fix it so i just went and bought a new truck and only drove this one around town. now has 133k miles.

i know the P0761 is a pure electronic code, but i have no idea where to go from here. if i get some cash i'm going to being it into the tranny shop as it would be nice to have O/D back on the highway.

'96 4x4 4.0 OHV Explorer 133k miles. any help would be great!!!

I think that if it was me, I would disconnect the pcm and measure the OD shift solonoid resistance at the connector. You could also jump voltage to it and listen for the clicking sound. Possibly a bad connection somewhere. Did your tranny guy measure the old soloniod and compare to the new one? Do you still happen to have the old one?

The code means there is either an open or short. It could be anywhere in the wiring or the solenoid. Since the solenoid has been replaced it is almost certainly a wiring issue. Someone good with electrical problems could fix this pretty easily.

i just got the check i've been waiting on so i'm going to drop it off at the tranny shop this week i hope.
