Net 10 phone service

Anybody been using Net 10? I have been using Verizon wireless, and I have good service everywhere but the costs are pretty high. I just saw a commercial for Net 10, and it sounded good, but the might not have many towers. So I thought I would ask the phone gurus here.

I can't speak for Net 10. But I switched recently from Verizon to Straight Talk. Straight Talk sells two different types of phones. Those with model numbers ending in "c" work on the Verizon network and those with model numbers ending in "g" work on the AT&T network. I have a Samsung R451c phone and so far my coverage has been as good as my old Verizon phone.

They have 2 plans. For $30 a month you get 1000 minutes, 1000 text messages and 1000 MB of data. For $45 a month you get unlimited usage. The phone has limited web browsing ability, though.

You can get the phones and refill cards online or at any Wal-Mart store. You can refill by buying a card, refilling online or setting up auto-refill with a credit card.

So far I've been pleased with their service.

Thanks Dave, that sounds great. Better than Net 10. I will look into it tomorrow. Tried to send you a rep, but got the message.

Are you near the ocean? Did the Tsunami hit up as far as Oregon?

I'm well away from the ocean, in the south eastern part of the state. I have heard that there was quite a bit of damage on the coast and a few lives lost, mostly people who put themselves in harms way by going to take pictures and stuff. I don't have television, so I don't get much news.

Net10 is straight time, but not inexpensive.

I just got my fiancee ported into a Boost Mobile Blackberry for $50 a month, no contract, unlimited Talk, Text & Web.
They shrink her payment $5 every 6 months that she pays on time. In two years it will be $30...
She was killing me on my AT&T account,

Oh and by the way, the letter designations mean that Verizon uses unique CDMA technology and AT&T uses GSM, which is a worldwide standard.

Jim, you're not saying that women can be expensive are you?

You have another good suggestion I will look into. I have 3 on Verizon and it is costing over $200 a month. My contract ran out so I can make a change.

So GSM is what other countries use? Not that I am going anywhere except maybe Canada.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Got the same message from the rep gods.

Do a search on net 10....I haven't read much good about them....especially if customer service is ever needed.

I refuse to incriminate myself.
*cringe*

GSM is Global System for Mobile communications.
It is the worldwide standard.

CDMA is Code Division Multiple Access.
It is a somewhat esoteric method of mulitplexing (sharing a frequency by multiple devices) and only used by Verizon and Qualcomm that I know of.

Phones are built to one or the other standard.
You could even have the same model phone (externally) with a different transceiver setup inside.
The iPhone 4G comes to mind.

The point is that you can't use a Verizon phone on AT&T's network, or vice versa.

I have a Net10 "burner".
Paid cash, used a fictitious name and ONLY buy airtime in person with cash.
Sometimes you NEED to be anonymous.

Coverage is good, I could care less about customer service.

I have 4 on Verizon for $140 per month just Talk and Text sharing 1400 minutes..

I am thinking of switching to Sprint.. For the same $140 I can get unlimited Talk, Text, & Web.. That doesn't include paying for new smartphones..

NOt sure how well Sprints coverage is compared to Verizon.. I have been happy with the Verizon coverage..

My son works for Target and they get a discount on Sprint also that make sthe deal better..

Just go with AT&T they have a $2 a day plan. It is with the prepaid phones an you buy a phone card every 60 days for say $20 you use the phone today an it takes $2 off that an you have unlimited minutes for the entire day. An that leaves $18 left or 9 more times you cna use it before you need another card. An its for local an long distance anywere in the US. An there are several different phones that will work with the plan besides the prepaid phones they carry you can switch almost any phone over to that plan. Just check with them an see if the phone you have can be used on the plan. You can go to there website an do the chat to find out instead of calling them an going up there to them.

I have Verizon and I got my GF a Straight Talk phone a little over a year ago and she gets better service than me... $45 a month for unlimited everything is great.

I pay much more for my verizon and I only get 400 mins talk and unlimited internet..

Only reason I havent switched to Straight talk is I dont want to go from a Droid to one of their phones..
