Theft Prevention

Now that my 56 is completed what do you guys think is the best way to prevent theft. Hate to think of it but people say it happens.

Well, if you want to stop them from driving it away you could do a removable steering wheel or a removable shifter if it is a standard transmission. Just leave it in neutral and take the shifter with you. If it is an automatic, put in a switch to disconnect the neutral safety switch.

Depends on you, if your really scared it will get stolen. I would go with a nice alarm from a reputable shop, some of those come with GPS like Lojack. Most good alarms have a battery back-up in case the thief unhooks your battery, that way the alarm will still work and the vehicle can be tracked...

Yeah you could mount the Light on the visor arm at an angle towards where the driver's chest would be and then go to Kinko's and get a magnetic sign to put on the dash "Feeling Lucky Today the firing off the engine wont be the only thing that happens" . Naw let me stop I think a mechanical or electrical disconnect or take the steering wheel with you would be a deterrent. When I get from Church I will post pictures of an idea I had.

Buddy of mine used a pedal lock on his jacked-up Jeep CJ-7 in Brooklyn. Since it is an open jeep anyone could just hop inside... yet no one ever took it. He even caught a kid sitting in it one day looking at the pedal lock. Example here.

This is what I was thinking about doing... but am very interested to see where this thread goes. Great topic..

Paint it like mine! I use a steering wheel to brake lock.

If you put a kill switch, put it in such a way that it disconnects the power to the distributor or coil. Allowing the engine to crank but not start, hopefully this will attract attention. That being said I have a REVELCO system but on the simple electronics of most of our older trucks it probably wouldn't be the best choice unless you are running fuel injection.

MSD has a built in kill switch that I use. I use to run a hidden switch between the ignition and starter also. I also have air bags, so if they can't get it off the ground, they are not gonna drive it anywhere but in the ground.

This is what I had in mine. Something similiar to this approach using a switch like this

I have gotten these out of cars at the junkyard. I figure I can make a bracket on a flip down underneath the dash or seat. Something to kill power to the coil or in my fuel injected case, the fuel pump. My truck will always be a driver and not a shiny eye catcher but you dont want someone to take whatever you have for a joyride or something

My truck has a kill switch that requires you to pull it out a certain distance in order for it to work. I'm more worried about my radio and personal items in the cab now though. Anyone have any door locks for a 1954 F100? haha

Speaking of door locks. Can I get a system that allows me to unlock the door on the driver's side. Never realized how it locked till I completed the project. Kind of a pain the way the original setup is. Only unlocking it from the passenger side.
