Exhaust leak at up pipe

Both my up pipes are leaking where they join the Y at the back of the turbo. Any thoughts on best way to fix? From what I can tell neither Autozone or Oreilly's has parts/gaskets. The Haynes manual I have conveniently skips mention of the exhaust and up pipes. While this is my first post on here I have been on here ALOT learning all kinds of good info

Welcome to FTE.

The best fix is to install bellowed up-pipes to eliminate the donut gasket joint at that location. It's kind of pricey, but it's the last time you'll have to do it. The cheapest price seems to be here. Riffraff Diesel: IH Bellowed Up-pipe Kit and the instructions on how to change them are here Welcome to Pocket's International UP-Pipe Replacement Web Page

If the money is too tight to go that route, go back to your local auto parts store and tell them you need (2) Felpro 8194 donut gaskets. Don't tell them the make or model or anything else. Just say this is the part number I need. Felpro 8194. They will fit your up pipes. They are a little thicker than the stock ones, but they fit. Be sure and coat everything in anti-seize when you put it all back together.

Depending on what shape the pipes are in you may be able to get away with doing the fel-pro 8194 donuts. Otherwise the permanent fix is bellowed up pipes that eliminate the donuts. Riffraff Diesel has about the best price on them and you can get ceramic coated ones from Clay too.

EDIT: Slow Typing? Really? HA HA

Thanks guys! The pipes look good and I think I will try the fel-pro gaskets. Truck is a 'o1 with 210k. Figure if the originals lasted 10 years and that many miles I will spend my extra money on other upgrades...like a full turbo back exhaust

You will not be able to tell if the up pipes are damaged until you get them apart. But if you find them damaged you can get replacements.

F81Z-6K854-EA (passenger side) $30.52

F81Z-6K854-FA (drivers side) $37.66 (Prices from Partsguyed.com----OEM BABY)

Thanks for the advice and the part #'s too! Checked the price on the bellowed pipes and those would be considered a 'want' and not a 'need' in my current finances.

I just did the 8194 gaskets. cheap at Napa. A real pain, broke 3 bolts in the back of the Y collector, so after a few cans of PB and new bolts I was back in business and boost is up again.

Getting parts gathered...If I replace the up pipes are there gaskets where the pipes connect to the headers? Thinking of getting new pipes and painting them ahead of time and want to make sure I have everything covered parts wise

Where it connects to the manifold is bellowed, like they should have done on the top like the IH's

The manifold to up-pipe connection is flared not bellowed, so you do not need gaskets. Like Chris mentioned above, clean up the contact points and use anti-seize. That will ensure a good seal that doesn't "fuse" together.

I couldn't think of the word "flared" and for some reason typed bellowed instead of beveled, oh well Ken got you lined out.
