Cleaned EGR & Pulled muffler

I recently bought MBRP 4" w/o the CAT. Didn't sound much different than being CATless with the OEM exhaust. I took the extra piece of pipe and a band clamp and removed the resonator. I now have a straight pipe and it sounds different now. While I was working the truck I pulled the EGR to check it out, glad I did. The upper portion was 3/4 of the way plugged with soot material, the lower half was pretty clear. I cleaned it up withcarb cleaner and back in she went. Runs nie and sounds BADASS. Not obnoxious but robust!

I could not pull it out by hand and did not have a little pry bar. I had some small chain and small S hooks icking around so... I took the chain and measured out a length to go from one bolt hole to the other and allowed a little extra above the top of the EGR body. Then I took the S hooks and put them on each end of the chain crimped them so they wouldn't come off. Then after taking the bolts out of the EGR valve twist it and put the S hooks in the holes. Then put a broom stick or something like it through the chain and rest it on the altenator, pull up on the other end of the handle and it pops right out. Alot easier.

Sound without Muffler

I recently "cleaned" the cat on my Ex hoping to reduce EGT and EBP. I really can't tell any difference and was wondering how loud or whether yours sounds weird like I've heard some diesels sound with straight pipes.

Noise in an Excursion seems to be a problem, I guess because of the large interior volume, and I don't want to add to that with a loud exhaust.

I pull a 10,000# trailer and just wanted to keep EGT as low as possible.

Prior to purchasing The 4" exhaust I knocked the guts out of my CAT,that sounded better. A little turbo whine. Then I bought the 4" MBPR off-road (CATLESS) and that didn't sound much diiferent than the CATLESS OEM stock but EGT's dropped an easy 200 degrees. I can't say I've even seen 900 anymore. Yesterday I removed the resonator and now it is straight. It is louder, especially when you step on the gas. Other than that it sounds "normal".

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try it and see how it works out.

It was pretty easy for me as the MBRP kit came with a piece of pipe to be used if it was a long bed or not. So the extra pipe was cut down to the size of the resonator and was already flared on one end. I boought a band clamp and now can remove the straight pipe easily and put the resonator back in just by loosening a couple clamps.
