Edge CTS - Any good?

I am in the market for an entire setup of gauges for my truck. I have not considered the Edge CTS because I'm thinking "if it just ties into the on board computer, how accurate can it be?" I consider that the factory temp gauge for the transmission is not really that accurate, why would a system that ties into the computer be any better? Do you follow my logic here? I want to get gauges that will have a visual/audible alert when something is not within normal limits so it attracts my attention. I can go a long ways without ever looking at some of the gauges so this is a must. The Autometer Elite series looks nice, but we are also talking $200 per gauge by the time I get it. That can get pretty expensive.

So, those of you who know, please tell me if my thinking is wrong. Will an Autometer gauge with separate sensors be more accurate that this system?

Thanks,

JP

You are fixing to get a bushel basket of responses to go ahead and get a ''real'' chip and not a programmer. There are a few great tuners available.
DP Tuner and TS/Tony Wildman. They both have great tunes to do whatever you want.
Gauges will show you what the truck is doing so you can monitor it.I would suggest Isspro gauges.
All of this can be bought at Riffraff Diesel.Holler at Clay and he will fix you up.

Allow me to clarify. I'm only looking for monitoring capabilities. Let's leave the tuner portion of this for another thread.

Gotcha.I am not real familiar with them but they do have several readings.Boost,EGT,Trans temp. You will have to install the pyro probe in the exhaust.
I would still suggest ''real'' gauges if you are going to do some mods to your truck like a chip.

Why put all your eggs in one basket? Something screws up with the display and you lose it all. I have 3 individual gauges that I can replace at will. Also, I have seen the MAP sensor many gauges use. I'm not sure why but they read positive boost on Dad's truck even when the engine is off.

It's a great gauge, but you are limited to 2 parameters to monitor at once. I'm pretty sure you can hook a pyro up to it, but I'd rather have a seperate gauge for that.

The most common are EGT, trans temp and boost. If you consider the Aerforce/Terminator Eng. gauge, it does read trans temp and seems to be very accurate from the OBD port. I've compared it to my autometer trans temp and they seem to be pretty much equal in temps. I've compared boost readings as well, and they seem pretty close, until you get over 20lbs and then my autometer gauge stays accurate while the map sensor reading stays at 20lbs (over boost eliminator).
