Cleaned my EGR valve mpg imporved
just thought i'd share this story if it helps any
i had a check engine come on a while back and went a got a code reader from parts store
it gave a code for insufficient EGR flow, valve stuck closed.
i took it off, pretty easy to do by the way, i took a pencil, and with the eraser side i pressed up on the bottom of the valve as the exhaust gas does and sure enough some crusty carbon build up had its stuck closed.
but it broke free fairly easy and with WD-40 and air duster I had it cleaned up and moving nicely.
the check engine light went away, so thats exciting.
more exciting is this, before with the CEL i was getting 8-9 mpg
after i cleaned the valve, my last fill up i measured 13.5 mpg
a large percentage difference.
also, cleaning the valve was about $105 less than replacing it, and it seems to have done the job
anyway if you read all this you are likely bored and wish you didnt waste your time, but if it helped you with a head scratcher, then sweet
