hey how you guys doin?? ok im in the process of lifting 79 f150 6" with the superflex coils and piecing the rest together.. anywho i plan on making my own steering linkage.. i cut and extended my stock drag link and track bar just so i could move it from behind the garage and not have it wanna fall... and the way it is now there are NO track bar riser/drop bracket and NO drop pitman arm. and it seems that if it was left like that it "would" work.. so my question is DO I NEED a drop pitman arm?? and if i DO, then would that require a drop bracket for the track bar?? the only thing i can come up with is that i would loose turning radius.. am i wrong? does a drop pitman give more turning?? i dont think it does.... i dont think i need one.. im probably wrong.. any info great.. and TIA
With the really steep angle it will be hard to steer at roadway speeds and you will get some crazy bumpsteer as a result. There is a reason they sell the drop arms and brackets
Its not NEEDED. Lots o pickups that year runnin around with 6 inch lifts no drop pitman or trac bar.
but alot of people DO have them..

what is "aligned"??? they are both at the same angle now..

but i would think with tge drop bracket it ma be too low a max stuff and hit ****.. and i never felt like going 50 in my truck anyway...
wha tdo you think?? DO I NEED IT/THEM??? PROS AND CONS??? PLEASE.. THANKS

Seems people have given you opinions and it's not the answer you want to hear, so why not quit beating around the bush, tell us what you want to do and get on with it.
Like I said earlier, it will play hell on steering components. The tie rod ends will wear out prematurely due to the sever angles you will be subjecting them without the drop arm. Plus the axle will be continually pulled to the driver side due to the track bar not being in proper geometry to center it under the axle. But hey, it's your truck, do as you wish. If it were me, I'd spend the couple hundred bucks and get the drop trac bar bracket and drop pitman arm, but you hillbilly booty fab your junk any way you like it!
What everyone else said and you didn't want to hear. You CAN run it without them, but the right way to do it is to get them or you'll wear stuff out and have some geometry problems in your steering. Not so much bumpsteer, because they will still be aligned, but you will wear out your TREs earlier. Seems you've already made up your mind though, so don't buy them and just make sure you keep an eye on your tie rod ends to make sure they don't pull apart. It is more likely that they will pull apart and you'll completely lose control of your truck.. not good!
ok guys ok.... i am going to do it the rite way.. i dont want things wearing out and bump steer blows.. had that allready... thank you guys for the input.. i just wasnt sure. i dont have quite all the steering knowledge yet.. HAHAHA.. any who let me ask another question.. have peope had problems with the track bar drop bracket hitting the axle (or anything)? are people running a drop and a riser for the track bar( so you have a shorter drop bracket)?im worried that at full stuff it may hit.. o and it is a 79 f150 6" superflex.. thanks..
You don't hit. I have 4" superflex coils on my Bronco with a 4" drop bracket and a larger d60 diff and have no clearance issues. If you do for some reason run into clearance issues then just add some bump stops (but it is highly unlikely that you will)
