i had put a new starter relay on it. along with new cables to the battery and switch to the battery. my cable to the starter from the starter relay looks weathered(plastic falling off) and old. thinkin this might be my problem. when i turn the key they only effect i get is the sound of my electric fuel pump(previous owner had put on). im gonna go out and try 49ford's idea. the guy i bought it from had about 1,000 worth of electrical parts included. i think he was trying to convert to 12v but didnt have the time so its in the conversion process. trying to decide if i need a new wiring harness. your guys suggestions are the best. thanks alot guys!

I got a kit from Ron Francis wiring, haven't started on it yet . I've read the first set of instructions and it seems about three or for wires hooked up and it's ready to be started. It comes with lettered bags all labeled and ready to install one at a time. Each wire color coated and fully marked as to what it goes to all down the wire.

just for giggles, nobody mentioned that these trucks were originally 6 volt POSITIVE ground from the factory. while spinning the starter may not be an issue, i do think the coil and distributor would goober things up by being wired 6 or 12volt NEGATIVE ground. Does the truck still have a generator, or was an alternator swapped in? No mention about the motor either, 6cyl, 8cyl, original, swapped, etc. all sorts of questions about this rattle about in my poor empty head before i'd take a shot at suggesting anything.
