I did not try to drive for max MPG Ii ran 65-68on flat ground and held to floor on the hills. It only dropped 4 MPH on any of the hills.
I drove it like this to get a worse case idea of MPG.
I made sure to use the same pump and fill to same point (lower lip of filler pipe)
The result was 49.4 miles and 4.2 gallons of fuel used for 11.7 MPG.
I had heard these 12V cummins got good milage, but I didn't know it was this good. I think this is good mileage considering the over 13K empty weight, and the bluntness of the box.
I was told the higher gears would pay for themselves. It looks like they will.
Thats not just good mileage for that truck it's darn good mileage!

Well i made it here on my vacation. the truck is getting about 10-10.5 MPG during the trip from OH to CO. on flat land it will pull 65-70 mph without any problems. I pulled a 9 mile long 6% grade in 4th gear at 36mph.
I'm quite happy with that considering the 18-19K gross weight with the jeep and trailer hooked up.

From on the road, crossing the continetial divide

It looks a little out of place but it works for me.

Well that is just a little frame twist. that and of corse the cab is on rubber bushings. The rear suspension is much stiffer than the front.THe box is bolted on in the usual way except the back has 2 foot long 3/16 steel plates bolting the box and frame together. its all the usual old U-Haul parts. The 2 big brackets also bolt on the bumper and hitch.
I counted as it taken apart and it had a total of 32 1/2 inch fine thread bolts holding it all together.

I just measured the outer frame rail (it has a doulbe frame) and went to my local steel fab supplier. If I remember right I think they were about $130 for both.
They bent them out of .250 plate.
