whoa thats fricken sweet dude.
you really went through that truck, i bet she purrs.
i have realized over the years if u take care of your f100 it will take care of you.
i drove mine across the country several times and she has never let me down.
i may go through a few daily drivers but one things for sure is the f100 will always be a dependable vehicle that will be there for me,

Exactly Very soon I'll have the exaust in and everything running. I'm tight on budget so paint is a bit of a issue, I can rent a paint booth and DYI for around 800 or I can get a Maaco shake your tummy and barf on it jobbie for 300. Either way, its a damn pretty truck.

Well the new wiring harness is in place, I've removed that electric ignition and have put everything together. Next up, discover why it won't start and why its backfiring through the carb.

Its the timing, and its confusing the **** out of me lol. I've never adjusted timing before. My understanding is as follows.
rotate to 10 degreees btdc, and set the rotor underneath the number one plug wire. All it gets me is a 3 foot flame out the back

Any kind soul got some advice?

Hmm sound like you didn't put #1 piston at tdc. Remove #1 spark plug and if you don't have a remote starter jumper when a helper would be handy. Place your thumb over the #1 plug hole so you'll know when the piston is on the compression stroke then stop and maybe use a socket wench to move it to where it lins up. The compression will blow your finger off the hole as it's coming & passing tdc. Well when all lined up the crank pulley will be lined with timing pointer. I sound like your 180* off or your wires our. Most have to move the dissy back and fourth to get them running b4 setup the time right..

PDXHutch,

Glad to see you have it running.

Did you ever figure out the original no-start problem? What was it?

Cheers,

John

A few diffrent things,( Before I confess how much of an idiot I am please understand, I've never taken an engine this far apart, and never seen a engine this old before. All of this is completely new to me.) First and foremost was a intermittent short caused by me not screwing the condenser down, and it bounding around as then engine turned causing some spark/no spark. After I removed the electronic ignition I wired in the points and condenser, but lacked screws.

Well~~~ you haven't done any thing that we'd all done at one time or another leaving something a little loose. Mostly being side tracked and forgetting to tighten it later. Yup I've learned over the yrs the first thing to trouble shooting is look and check for any loose stuff. Plug any cracked split vacuum hose end. An so on. Well some time we have to back track to find the problem. Well Great you got it going and did it yourself and didn't give up..
until running..
