Do the 3V V10s have the same problems with spark plugs breaking off in the heads that the 3V 5.4s have.

I'm not talking about blowing plugs, I'm talking about them snapping off when changing them.

Yes - same design.

Ford has a TSB out on it, on how to get them out without TOO much trouble. Something about warming up the engine first.

Ok so then there is pretty much no Ford truck I want to buy.

The 2V 6.8 is in the old body style with the 4R100 (crap) or the stick, but I don't want the OBS.

The 3V 6.8 has the crap plugs.

The 3V 5.4 F150 has the crap plugs and the crap 4 speed auto.

The 6.0 is unreliable and diesel is really expensive.

The 6.4 is really expensive, diesel is expensive, and it gets crap MPG.

The 7.3 is older, in the OBS that I don't want and has either the crap 4 speed auto or stick.

IDK then.

i was just at the ford dealer and talking with the service advisor...he mentioned something about the 3v having a metal cap??? on the spark plugs that comes off...it doesnt grenade the engine but has to be taken out with a special ford tool that they recently purchased...if you dont do your own maintenance than i wouldnt worry about it and i dont think it is a major problem anyways

The 6.0 is unreliable???? I know they had their issues when they were first out to market, but I am pretty happy with my 2004. Rock solid engine.

They aren't crap, just don't leave them in there for a HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES and expect them to come out easily.

Whats an old body stye? Do you mean like the 99-04's?
And I know of many 4R100's with well over 200 000km and a running fine.
Don't leave your plugs in for 100k. Yes, diesel is expensive.
But if you buy something else, I'm sure diesel wil be cheaper..........

FYI: Just saw another 6.0 today doing 10mph on the shoulder, blowing huge clouds of smoke with its hazards on.

Not to mention the one that's sitting in my neighbors yard for sale with a blown engine and 24k miles on it.

sounds reliable to me.

If your neighbors diesel has 24,000 miles on it and it wasn't repaired by Ford then your neighbor did something stupid to void the warranty.

having owned an unmodified 6.0L, I would never recommend one. as a whole, the 6.0L production run is far from rock solid.

quite possible there was nothing done to the engine.

Is there a fix for these spark plugs? Is there a plug that doesn't break, and has there been a mileage established that it's safe to get them out without breaking?

I don't know how Ford can keep screwing up something as simple as spark plugs.

That doesn't explain why he didn't have Ford fix it at only 24,000 miles under the bumper to bumper warranty or the 100,000 mile engine warranty. If it smells fishy, you can bet it is fishy.
