Can loose battery connectors damage a starter?

Yup - me again - if the connections on the batteries are really loose, as in easily removed from the battery - and you drive like this for awhile can it damage the starter???? I have been told it cannot and it can, so which is the truth?

Was told the starter has been damaged by the loose battery connectors. Just need to know if that can happen as I asked the dealer to fix the connections. They told me today I bought a used truck, it has been over 30 days, they will not cover anything.

Of course I was also told the truck had been checked out really well and I took it back 4 times after I picked it up so I "know" that is not true. They did eventually fix the truck, which I appreciate, because they did not HAVE to fix it contractually but there are other issues with the truck.

Just need to know who is and who is not BSing me before me I go up the ladder.

We always like to see clean/tight battery terminals for several reasons.
I would think the less stress you put on a starter the better. So,that means tight/clean terminals will help it last longer.

Well as far as the dealer telling you one thing and someone else telling you another, from now on be sure to come here and ask about whatever issue you're having, this site has some very knowledgeable people that's pretty much here to share/help...as far as loose connections damaging the starter,I think it could, but that would be low on the maybe list, loose connections will definitely cause no start/hard start issues as well as battery issues, without good solid connections the system can't keep the batteries charged...

But if the truck starts after hitting the starter with a hammer the problem is in the starter, not the batteries/connection right? I had the starter replaced today, by a friends brother. I told Dealer I wanted them to cover it because of all the problems I have had. Person who worked on it today said the loose battery connections could have damaged the starter ????

Long term yes. The poor connection would generate heat within the starter just the same as if you put a cheap extension cord on your expensive skill saw. The increased resistance generates heat. You will overheat the brushes and armature. Short term not much damage will occur. Good luck.
