I'm not sure about the smallblocks, but big blocks were all '87 and later.

I needed to use the taller ZF transmission hump when I swapped from a B/W T19.
The input splines were different in my case as well.
Took all that old stuff to the dump yesterday. (flywheel, clutch, crossmember, hump, stick and transfercase linkage)

well i got mine rebuilt. it was $75 for him to look at it, well he didnt charge me the 75 because i got it rebuilt. it was $300 for labor and $300 for the parts. the syncroswere bad, so he replaced them with brass ones and he did the bearings, and alos i got a 1yr warrenty even tho i took the transmission out myself. but right now im saving up to put it back in. right now i got a 10in clutch but im going to upgrade to a centerforce 11in.

A tip: When you put it in... Bite the bullet and put synthetic in it you'll thank yourself later. I know Redline, RP, and Motorcraft are some of the brands that guys around here use frequently on their zf's... I know it's a killer on price up front but the extra lubrication and life you get out of the transmission will be worth it in the end. If you already have a non-synthetic your going to put in it... Run that for 30-50K and then replace with synthetic...

Also you can probably find a buyer for your Mazda on CL if you post it in the parts section telling people it will fit any F150 between 87-96... IT might help you recoop some of the ZF's cost. Have fun driving your ZF! They are great tranny's. Also post back and tell us how it runs after a fresh rebuild. My ZF is getting hard to shift between 1st and 3rd but I suspect that is syncro problems... I have heard that shifting between 1st and 2nd is always a little hard even with new syncros, but have not confirmed this for sure... Post back and let us know how your's runs!

X2, I was able to get rid of my noisy M5 on CL. I was able to get $140 for mine and the buyer didn't care about the noise.

yeah. i got a lot of stuff to get rid of on CL. i got my old 8.8 rear end and front diff. 3.08 and a 5.0l. yeah i was planning on using RP Trans. fluid. i might look at posting that stuff on CL soon so i can look at getting the truck running quicker.

i have to replace the Power Stearing pump, i need Ball joints and if im doing ball joints im going to look at doing a lift 4 or maybe 6in, so i can fit 35s on their. i already have taller springs in front but the alignment is way off, so it wont be until mid summer i would probably get it going.

An old buddy of mine calls it "sweet oil".
I'd always heard it called "elbow grease".

a couple thoughts...

A.) if you need auto parts check out amazon... I've found they have the cheapest parts and have free shipping if you can wait a few days. I usually order on Mon-Tues and have the parts by Friday to do weekend work.

B.) with a 4-6in lift an 35's you'll probably want 4.10's to spin them... And that's definatly going to cost you in the mpg area... If you care at all or don't know that already.

C.) Don't get an alignment until you are already done with the lift (again you probably already knew that...)

x4-5 now... on the royal purple. You can see it referenced several times above as RP... I have had friends tell me that Motorcraft maks a synthetic atf that works really well to but never seen it on the shelf anywhere...

Either way, synthetic ATF is pricey so get ready to shake the cob webs loose off that money of yours!

X2 on Amazon. I've actually found the same sellers there that are also on sleezebay, except their prices on Amazon are a little less than they are on sleezebay.

I buy straigt from the Amazon warehouse itself. the prices might be a little higher but you get free shipping.

True, the free shipping usually makes it a better deal.

Manual transmission swap?

I also am having the same issue with what transmission to switch too? I have a 1996 ford f-250XL standard cab long bed with the M5OD manual transmission, with the I6 300.Is there a more heavyduty transmission I can replace for the M5OD? I do lots of light to medium hauling & towing with this truck, but want to keep the 300 engine in it!Any help would be great?

A ZF 5 speed is the simplest strength upgrade. It needs to have the right bellhousing, so it had to originally been behind another 6 (don't know if that ever actually happened) or a small block V8. No diesels or 460s.
