Is it just a standard drum? should only cost like 90 bucks for a new one.

Call Fleet Pride, they'll know who can machine your drums.

Pittsburg? You mean, nobody around there dont have a lathe. Sounds like a 10
minute job. A 9" lathe can do that with ease with the proper face plate and boring bar.

Question is, how much meat will be left after it's cut to fix the warp?

I've met quite a few people over the years that get gun-shy about weird stuff like that, and even moreso about commercial trucks.

If it's warped enough, there's no way to really tell if it's still got enough meat. The "max diameter" assumes you're cutting an unwarped drum.

In other words, let's say the drum is warped .050". Let's say there's only .030" left before it hits the max diameter. It could actually be .020" past the max cut depth once it's cut.

If it's warped, heat cracks present it's time to get rid of it. A brake drum is a heat sink for the brake shoes, when you cut the drum you take away strenght and cooling and is the main reason nobody really cuts them anymore. If it's a original drum from 1998 it lived it's life and time to go, if you cut it and reuse it you're only short changing yourself.Stopping the truck unloaded is one thing, now consider when you have a vehicle on the bed and one on the hook you're stopping alot more..
I'm not trying to be mean or a smart ***, just trying to save a headache and keep D.O.T. from ticketing you

I've seen hundreds of brake drums turned if it's feasible. There is a minimum spec stamped on the drums. There are a couple of Fleetpride locations in WV so have a look at their website to see how far they are and if they can turn drums

Yes, there's a maximum width, but the spec assumes the drum isn't warped. If it's warped, you could go past what the minimum "meat" is left and still be less than the maximum width.

Anyway...

if it is warped replace it check with your local truck parts place they can get it. a warped drum is a safety issue, a warped drum can become a cracked drum, then a two piece drum seen it happen, the people in the car beside me got lucky the drum piece that went through their wind shield missed them! don't skimp it's not just your life think about it!
