Got my letter in the mail two weeks ago took the truck down to the dealer (60 miles away). With the work completed made my way home, about 15 miles into the trip traveling at 65 mpg, cruise on. The cruise kicked off, the message center had display the wrench symbol and indicated engine in limp mode. Unfortunately the dealer was closed so I made the journey home. I still had a grade to climb from 800ft to 4000ft elevation. Got home turned the engine off then turned it back on and the wrench symbol turned off. Called the dealer in the morning, they logged the wrench indicator occurrence and said to bring it in if it turns on again. I did notice the LOM was fluctuating more as to the driving conditions I was doing. If I were climbing a hill the LOM showed a lower ave mpg and if on flat ground, it would increase dramatically as I traveled more miles. Have not seen any substation increase in the MPG the few times I have driven it. (not my daily driver truck) Before the PCM update, I would hardly see the LOM change until I log some distance on the truck. Will have to see what happens in the next few weeks to notice a change in the engines performance.

Had the PCM update done this week on my 2010. No problems with it, runs and shifts great, and no change in fuel economy. Will pull the horse trailer tomorrow for a short trip.

I also had the steering wheel replaced under warranty. Was starting to get loose and clunk when making sharp turns. A new steering wheel makes it feel like a brand new truck again!

Only if my kids were sucking on the exhaust tips for hours at a time!

Remember when a diesel engine gave good mpg? As a teenager, my dad bought a 1981 Isuzu P'up. Although it was a 4 banger it got 34-40mpg on the freeway, but probably took 20 seconds to get to 60 mph! Volkswagen rabbits and trucks were getting 40-45 mpg. Granted, they were gutless wonders, but they were good performers in the 80's before the EPA put the hammer down and choked the diesel to what we have today.

Yeah soot never bothered anybody. It just falls to the ground. As I understand it the EPA had to go to great lengths to get soot declared a carcenigan (whatever, spelling never was my long suit). My thought is that in addition to mission creep which all federal agencies want to do, they wanted to get the diesel trucks to quit making soot because the gasser drivers saw it and resented having their catalytic converter cars while the trucks looked like they were polluting.

Lets see - a diesel that gets 19 mpg but smokes versus a diesel that gets 12 mpg and only smokes a little (because the DPF is probably cracked). So my MPG went down 37% in order to reduce the soot. The only person that lost is the consumer. The fuel companies think this is the best invention ever because we buy 37% more fuel. Some pencil pusher in the EPA probably doubled his salary, Ford raised the price of our trucks, and the ceramic industry has something to do other than make pottery. Everyone wins!! Oh, except the end user but who really cares, they arent real people, just statistics on the financial statements.

Got my letter while I was in Washington State, so I took it into Columbia Ford in Longview. They called me back around noon stating the PMC and IC accepted the flash, but the TCM would not. They ordered a new TCM and replaced it. They stated they had never seen this happen before. My 09 F-350 has 50K on it now. So I will see how it does when I pull my boat which is 13500lbs.

Morning all,

Took the truck in for an oil change and they flashed it while in the shop.

Now my cruise control does not work (horn does). Taking it back in this morning because it worked fine before they flashed it. Has anyone heard of a PCM update causing the cruise to cease working??

I will add that they made a mess when changing the oil (allegedly a bad oil filter causing oil loss to drip under the truck...which they did not notice , but I did when I drove it around the block to work. After replacing the filter, water was used to clean off the mess under the hood.

I've put on appx. 6K miles on my truck since the 11B23 change, mostly with the 5er in tow. I've noticed the scheduling for the turbo boost has been changed, and I'm finally seeing the better MPG others have mentioned, but whether that is due to the 11B23 flash, or the engine getting broken in, who knows.

I guess by now everybody knows that there is a reflash out for the reflash. According to a thread on this forum it seems the 11b23 flash has caused some problems and Ford issued an update. I'm on the road so I don't know if they sent another letter or not. You guys that just got it done in May or June should have gotten the latest. Don't know for sure what they are correcting but my exhaust cleanings are now 100 miles apart towing, a lot more often then before the 11b23.
