'03 v10 y-pipe, good or bad???

There was no 3V in 2003. The 3V did not come out until 2005 in the SD. Plus the y-pipe, converter portions, exhaust manifolds and etc on the 3V are different than the 2V trucks. If you have the stock ypipe that came on a 2003 V10 SD that is designed to reduce or eliminate exhaust flutter. The 1999- early 2000 y-pipes were a different design and had flutter.

Replacing the stock T pipe with a good Y pipe will deliver a little more performance to help with towing chores, headers will be even better if you can fit the cost into your budget. Both should also make a very small MPG improvement, that can quickly disappear from the driver enjoying that new power boost!

Doing just the y-pipe on the 2-valve V10 will definitely help low-end throttle response. It equates to a quicker application of torque whenever you hit the go-pedal.
Whether or not that helps overall towing heavy, I can't say. Empty, it makes a noticeable difference.
Just be aware you may get the well-known "flutter" - which to me just sounds like extra exhaust noise - good noise though

I did the Y-pipe convert and definitely makes a difference at low rpm. I did have the flutter afterwards. I got the 5 star tuner with pipe as pkg deal. I waited a few days to see how just the pipe would make a difference before installing tunes. After programming with the 87 octane performance tune, flutter is barely noticable.
Truck runs great!!

Installed the SPD Y pipe on our 2003 all stock 3.73 a few months ago.
After 2k miles of towing gas mileage doesn't seem any better.
No change in exhaust sound, very quiet as always.
It has better low-end throttle response, get up and go, which makes it worth it at intersections when pulling a 7k trailer.

That is the old "rams horn" y-pipe that came on 99' and some 2000 trucks. Ford later changed it to the the y-pipe with the two necked down sections to get rid of exhaust flutter. It got rid of the flutter, but it also got rid of some power.

SO, I got this huge response to my question at 5 Star Tuning.
"I am curious as to why you sell a replacement Y pipe to replace the ram's horn on my 2000 Ford Excursion 6.8l 2wd XLT.
It makes sense for the ones with the reduction pipe(s), but does the 180 of the ram's horn really restrict things much?"
The very wordy response
yes it works 10 hp and 10 tq
Their ads claim the Y pipe is a 33hp and 35 torque improvement over the restricted style..so only a 1/3 comparative improvement to the ram's horn.
Seems hardly worth it for 10%, and I don't notice any flutter.
