i have had this problem. i drive a 02 ford f350 with the 7.3. (a fabulous engine i must add) Its a good chance that it is the cam alignment sensor. it was a recall on my truck. it is located on the left side right by the harmonic balancer. about 10 o clock. easy fix and im pretty sure that is the problem. if it were an injector your motor wouldnt just die instantly. Im not sure if u can just unplug it and go..... i think i payed like 80 bucks 4 the part. other than that and ball joints my 7.3 has been awesome. 18 mpg starts when its 0. any colder and i plug it in. good luck.
