Tired of poor performance

I've got a lifted 2006 F150 crew cab lariat and I understand mileage is poor 10-11 per mile. 35" tires under a pro comp 6" lift. I have changed out my plugs twice last year and am still very under powered. What else can i do? I also have a clunk when i accelerate, sound like the rear end or drive line possibly. Had my transfer case replaced recently by ford and don't remember the noise prior. Please help

I also am disappointed in the power of the 5.4L. It does not have the power I expected. Smog controls!?!?

I didn't see mention of changing the gears in your truck. With the bigger tires your final ratio is shortened. With the lack of stock power and then adding the oversize tires, you would be suffering for sure.

1) Other maintenance (fuel and air filter, transmission and transfer case fluids, etc.)
2a) Re-gear (4.56 or 4.88)
2b) Custom tunes

With 35s and a 6" lift, I'd think 10-11 MPG sounds just about right. Did you get your speedo corrected after adding the 35s? Maybe some 4.11 gears would help and not kill your mileage even more.

All good info. I have just found out my 373 gears are bad so i guess new gear change will be done. I changed my fuel filter, tranny fluid, airfilter to a K&N. When I change the rear gears, do I have to do the fronts?

yes you have to do the fronts also. Keep in mind you will probably not see much of A MPG improvement, maybe even a decrease depending on the ratio, but it should accelerate quicker.

Try the pedal trick....

Get in your vehicle, turn the key to the on position. Let all the beeping go away. Press your gas pedal slowly to the floor, and then take your foot off and let the pedal come up as quick as possible, turn the key off. Repeat two more times. This helped a lot on my truck. In fact its a whole new truck since doing this.

WTF! Is this something that works? Never heard of this before. More info on this trick would be great.

I had the same problem on my 08 Limited 5.4 when I bought it 2 months ago. Here's what I did to fix the problem. Turn the key to the on position but DON'T start the engine. Now press the gas peddle to the floor SLOWLY and let it come up/back as fast as you can, turn key to the off position. Now do this two more times. Now start the engine and go for a test drive then report back here with your findings!
This procedure works on my motorcycle so I tried it on my truck and it worked there too!
I also disconnected my battery but that was a couple of days later and wasn't done to correct the throttle problem but it drives like it's suppose to now.
There is a "forum post" on another f150 forum that has a topic full of people who say nothing but how this actually works.

The theory behind this is that the truck is ran by what they call "Throttle-by-wire" and sometimes depending on how the truck is driven and other conditions, the throttle is set from factory to only be 80% at WOT (Wide Open Throttle). So doing this re-syncs the throttle plate with the pedal... For example according to my Edge it is now 108% whilst before it was only 73%...
