What are the opinions of a Snap-on MT-2500 scanner

Does anybody have any experience with this machine. I have the ability to get the machine with 5 cartridges including the one for diesels. Plus all the wires for $250. Is this a good scanner or would I be better off with a AE? Any help would be great.

I have the MT-2500. I have the black programmable cartridges.
Works on all brands. Can moniter data. Can run several tests. I like it.

What cartridges come with it? What is the newest year vehicle does it work on?

Here is the link. Tell me what you guys think. I am looking at a few on eBay too. Might be able to get a little cheaper.

The Mt2500 was THE tool to have for years. what yrs are covered by the cartridges? they came out in 1988 and had a full run as the top professional diagnotics tool till 2004 when Snap on introduced the Modis and Solis. It will allow you to run all the tests read all the codes and a Snap on exclusive was the Troubleshooter. not only would it give you the codes but 4 or 5 of the most common causes of that code as reported by real techs. it also has trouble trees and specs. although Snap on no longer supports the 2500( they've moved on the MOdis/Solis and something else) it will still do ANYTHING we need it to do. plus some
I Sold Snap on tools for 16 yrs. i sold a ton of em and taught classes on em. its a good tool.
just looked at the link. you only need 1 primary cart. this scanner will work on domestic rig up to 2001. troubleshooter cart is good up to 1999.

It says it does includes the diesel insight. Do you exactly what you can read with the diesel insight? Or what tests. I just want to be able to do most that I need if the time comes. I am trying to see if I should go the snap on route or the AE route. Thanks for your response.

Remember I still bleed Snap On Red, but the MT2500 is no longer updatable and the cartridges offered on that particular one are fairly old. Each yr Snap on would update the database. Meaning that not only would they include new vehicles but any info updates for older ones as well. this troubleshooter cartridge barely covers your truck. A newer cartridge would offer more info.
The AE does not have the troubleshooter data base, but if you can get us a code, somebody on here can give you the most probable cause. Kinda like we have our own FTE Troubleshooter!
The AE is updatable, and has better graphing. IMHO the AE is money better spent. I left my Scanner at home when I hit the road 6 yrs ago and then bought the AE 2 yrs ago. there are times I wish I had both with me, but the AE and FTE always get me running!

Thanks bfife,

I was just wondering because I remember using the 2500 back when I was in high school. So I would know how to use it a little bit.....I think. So unless I can find one with newer cartridges I am going to pass for now. Thank you very much for your help. Thanks to everybody who posted for the help and suggestions.

I have no experience with the snap on tool but just thinking that it would make sense to spend the money on a tool that is still being updated.

I have the "Red Brick" got mine very similar to what you are looking at, 2 outdated cartridges but for $50. I bought an OBDII adapter and Catridges for Ford to 2006 and Generic OBDII for about $175 through some ebay dealers. And I love it, maybe I have not found it, but I cannot find PERDEL %'s but all the live data, movie making and tests work just as with the AE, however, at some point I will likely get AE too, just because it seems so powerful, and will work on some of my later model stuff.

I am still going to keep my eye on them on eye. If I can get one for a good deal I will buy it. It seems everybody bids them up to over 250 pretty quickly so we will see.
