question for bill aka number dummy or .....

one of you versed in ford oe wheels . i'm trying to figure out if i'm gonna be able to put the 8.8 i have { i'm pretty sure it measured out at 55 or lil' over inches between the backing plates all i can find says 62 inch wheel track for the vic so ....} from that 88 vic . well i got to measuring my rims for offset , and all i can find is that ford steel rims are 15 by 6 . i got 3" from the center of the rim out to the front , and 4 inches from the center to the back of the rim . now if i'm not asleep at the wheel here that would make it what a 15 x 7 with 4 inches of offset ????????????? did ford have rims this width in 83 which is the year of the truck that donated them , and they have ford stamped in them . they have 235 's on them and they aren't pinched in or anything , actually the side walls are "puffed out " a little bit ........ so did they make these and what year ????

Kevin - I'm not Bill, but might have an answer for you. Sounds like you are measuring from the outside rim lip to outside rim lip , am I right? Wheel width is, however, measured inside across the rim base. That would mean there's probably 1/2" additional distance on each side when you measure lip to lip. What you've done would be the correct method for measuring "back spacing", i.e. 4" back space. And what you've said would yield 1" of "positive offset". Here's a chart that might help.

Edit - To answer the rest of your question, an '83 F-150 could have had a 15" x 6" or a 15" x 8", plus a 16" and a 16.5". Likely yours are the 15" x 6". Stu
