hi guys just wondering when I take my 460 in to get bored and checked what should I have them do to it? I am new to the machining process and wanted to get more aquainted with it . What should I have done to it, and what dou you think it would cost? Just trying to learn more about it before I take it in..
Hmmm... My block is getting hot tanked, bored, magnafluxed, all the bearings are getting put in and the pistons are being put on the rods and it will cost around 130 bucks.
I just got a 3 angle valve job, new teflon seals and my intake bead blasted for $130 at the small local machine shop I use in Alabama. BTW, the seats for the valves were cut with a cutter, not ground with a stone.
Rufus-
have the block magnafluxed for cracks first, most will do that anyhow but double check.
then bore, hone, see if they use a torque plate during honing. Have the shop check and see if you need to have the blocked decked, or align honed as well.
I had my mustang engine, hot tanked, cleaned, magnafluxed, honed (torque plate),decked to ensure smooth surface for heads, honed, cam bearings installed (cheaper than buying the install tools yourself) pistons pressed on rods, rods resized, and the rotating assembly balanced. The balancing is the most costly part simply because of the time and labor involved and is not neccessary for a stock or mild buildup. My bill was about 600 for parts and labor.
thanx for all the input. it's going to go into a 79 f-250 np435 married np205 with maybe a 2 inch lift. Not yet decided but when she's together my chevy friends will see my taillights alot
