All throughout my childhood, my dad had a 1985 explorer lariat. Blue and white, 3 stripes, blue cloth/dash/carpet interior (with simulated wood grain, for the ultimate wood grain experience).
It was the coolest thing in the world to me as a kid and I hope to find one just like it again someday. Love seeing pics of these trucks!

My dad DID have a 1983 Explorer F100 with the 300/C6 combo. Now that thing was a real truck, dark brown top and light brown bottom. That thing pulled a lot stronger and actually ran faster than my '80 Ranger F100 with a 302/C4. Sadly, my brother ended up blowing the motor and it was scrapped, all that's left of it now is the driver's door which has been swapped to my truck.

hey I'm Wesley . Love the truck . I'm thinking of getting a hood badge like the one you have on your truck. Can you get a close up of the hood badge , so I can see it what it looks like. Do you know where I can find them at and do you know if they come with ranger on them. Thanks.

wesley here. Don't have an explorer , but I do have a 1981 Ford f100 ranger xlt with 300 straight 6 , 4.9liter, 4speed overdrive manual transmission . Has 9 inch rear end with 2.47 gear ratio. Has carpet floor , vynil bench seat the plastic wood grain dash . Has factory ac manual door locks and windows and just over 123,000 original miles. I am the third owner of it. A man bought it new from Houston Texas . The paint color was originally medium grey metallic with silver metallic as the secondary color. The guy owner a parts store in Texas and before he passed away sometime , he painted the top half of the truck like a red metallic or Burt Orange and the bottom half white. He painted the grill white the inside of the headlight bezels the red and the badging on the sides red and on the hubcaps, the the painted area was painted red. The parts of the doors inside and the pillars white. It all looks good from a distance , but overtime it is starting to flake in some areas because he didn't prep it right before repainting it. His grandson inherited it after he passed a d he drove it to Alabama. The grandson wife bought a new truck for him so he decided to sell it and I was lucky enough to be able to buy it. Now when I get financially able I'm gonna have it repainted , different color with some tripe design that I seen in a picture of my uncle's 1970's model 4x4 highboy he had in the 80's. I'm gonna use some Ford factory colors for 1981 year model. I'm thinking dark green or medium green as primary color , although I'd like it to have metallic in it , and for the two stripes thinking black on one stripe and a medium or dark brown for second stripe. On inside gonna keep same color interior but gonna do away with carpet and get vynil floor foot easier cleanup , since I live on a muddy road. Gonna get different vynil bench seat with the console in the middle that lets down. I'm also wanting to convert it to 4x4 and get a 20percent under kit from summit that bolts to the tail end of transmission to give me a little better pulling power on the highway since the 3rd and 4th gear have such a big jump in hearing. What do yaw think.

Heck, since this thread has been newly revived, figured I'd throw mine on here.
1985 F-250 Explorer Supercab 4x4 460 w/ T19 & BW1356, 4.11 open gears.
It appears an ordinary Lariat XLT (and is decaled as such) from my perspective, I'm not sure how the Explorer designation sets it apart.-- has pretty much every available option that I can tell, except didn't come with a tach or fog lights. Carpeted doors & floor, woodgrain interior, power w&d, convenience lighting, dual tanks, sliding rear window, electric fuel pumps, the list goes on.
It does have a fair amount of body molding, but I don't know if this is exclusive to the Explorers; I think many other two-tones got the body molding too but I can't be sure.

1985 F150 Explorer. I just recently discovered that "explorer" was an actual extra package on trucks. I honestly thought that Ford just called every truck that. I have no idea what package mine has though, still looking into that. I wasn't going to put on the Explorer badges after repaint but I am glad I did. I did remove the trim though since it was in rough shape.
This is before I painted it. My grandpa had a real cheap paint job done on the truck at one point so this isn't the exact factory paint. The original had a pin stripe on the lower part of the truck and over the wheel arches.
