51 FORD VIN NUMBER
#16
More info found talked with a guy in Idaho today his vin started out same as mine for a 1951 f3 pickup made in Chicago his was Rich14587 that was on the title and the glove box he said. Said he had to take the original glove out and had a new one put in from a place called Blue Oval. Sure is fun doing all this research.
Thanks.

Ill take a stab at it. But I dont see a color code.
F3 R1 EG 245862995
F3= F3
R1= 239 V8 1951
EG= Made in Edgewater
Im not to sure about the rest, looks like a production number. The color codes for 1951 are
A= Black
B= Sheridan Blue
D=Alpine Blue
G= Sea Island Green
H= Silvertone Grey
M= Meadow Green
N=Vermillion
P= ?Primer?
SS= Special

The color code is on a separate line on the tag in the glove box. That number 245862995 is way too long; it would mean Ford made 24 million trucks in Edgewater that year. I'd bet it is 24586.
Here is what your ratings plate should look like:
Serial number * Max GVW * Wheelbase * HP * RPM (for HP)
Paint code is on the second line

The data tag shown in Ross's post is for a late 51 and all 52. Early 51s had the 48-50 data tags.
EG is Edgewater, NJ plant. It's hard to find the original color code on 51s because almost none of them were stamped on the cowl, like the 48-50 trucks, with the additional info, which included month/date built, color code, etc. Some 51s were stamped in/around the same location on the cowl just like the 48-50s, but it wasn't as common.
If you're trying to find the original color, the best place to look is under the dash and behind any remnants of the headliner and interior trim.

It isn't like there were 30 different colors, it should be obvious if you look in those places. Thee are color charts on the web, try googling 1951 Ford truck color chart.
Have you checked the frame for the serial number? That is not a correct serial number, someone goofed somewhere along the way. [edit: is the title a "corrected" or does it have a state issued VIN number? the extra 2995 may mean 2/9/95 as an issue date for a corrected or state-issued title]
The tag 51Panelman refers to is on the firewall, passenger side, near the horn relay.

My 51 does not have the color code on the VIN tag in the glove box, or in the VIN stamp in the frame, or on the VIN tag on the firewall.
My color code is part of a stamp in the cowl just to the driver's side of center. Here's a pic to help you locate it. The first "H" is the color code for Silvertone Gray:

Color codes are not part of the VIN, and never have been. Your VIN has been decoded for you, whether you like what you've been told or not. And unless there's some bizarre, relevant piece of information you're not sharing, your stated number is too long, as you have been told, also. Please share some kind of documentation so we can help you further in figuring out where the mistake is.

Searching for VIN
Hi I recently acquired a 51 MERC M3. I was hoping to see your photos on your post, but they aren't showing up. Is there any way you can post again, or PM me?
thanks in advance
thanks in advance
Here's the front portion of the frame (this one's from a 52, but no difference for your case). Look at the right frame rail pictured on the left side. Find the two rivets holding the front engine mount bracket in place. The VIN should be stamped forward of the last rivet towards the front.
Here's what the VIN should look like.

1951 ford f1 all vin locations
I am looking for some info on 51 and 52 ford trucks. i need to know all the vin locations. i know of the plate on the inside of the glove box, and pass frame rail by the motor mount on the 51s but are there any more locations? the reason i ask i am looking at buying one but, the plate is gone, and the front end has been replaced with one out of a 80s camaro for the suspension and a 302 motor.(old frame section is gone) Are there any other locations? I am a rookie at this, and I live in NC so the laws here are strict. The guy I'm looking at buying from has the original title, but NC DMV inspectors are tough. They will want to make sure that the truck matches the title, as do I. So that way I can get it titled and registered in NC. I would hate to spend all the money fixing it up and not be able to drive it, or worse it come back stolen. PLZ HELP ME!!!! feel free to inbox me as well.
