GPS FOR MY 51
The only thing i know about a GPS is it tells you how to get were you want to go from were you are at . SO that being said !! What would be a good one to put in my 51 for my road trip across AMERICA. I want one i can stick on the glass or dash and when i don't want it there i can put it in the glovebox.

They do so much more than that now. I love my Garmin 205, it's outdated but still running, i'll go with a Garmin again next time for sure, i've seen TomTom's and others but to me the Garmin just operates easier and makes more sense going through the menus.
Have fun on the trip too, I sometimes daydream about running Route 66 from end to end on a summer road trip, maybe i'll get to do it sometime.

I'd guess that 265 model has more than anyone really needs but even mine shows you the speed limit in real time within feet of coming to the posted sign, that's really convenient when you drive up an onramp and don't see a speed limit sign. Also, it's pretty much a phone book for the whole country including addresses and phone numbers to almost every business. The 265 and others come with real time traffic updates and re-routed directions for driving in big cities. You can look up gas stations, fast food restaurants etc. on the fly and by their distance from you with instant directions, I don't know how I got around without one!
A quick clarification on my user name, a lot of people come to the same conclusion that you did that my name is Ivin. My name is actually Joe, i'm a pastor and my user name is Living for Jesus Christ. LVIN4JC was my license plate for years so it stuck online too. Anyway, i'm no Bible thumper and you'll never see me bringing up religion on here unless it's asked for and usually only in PM's then. Sorry for the confusion about it and I would have just left it but I plan on being on here for years to come and didn't want it to confuse anyone and cause problems down the road.

I can highly recommend Garmin. Had 3 units for professional and personal use and they never let me down. Keep in mind the basic units may not have the all the features that you want and the most expensive units have so many features that it gets confusing after awhile.
One word of caution: PLEASE don't do like a friend of mine did - he mounted his gps bracket to the dash of his 53 f100 using the manufacturers double stick tape. Despite the fact it clearly stated it would NOT mar the dash surface, he now has a half dollar size spot of removed paint from his dash. He swears some day that he will repaint the dash. lol.
Have fun on your trip.

LOL @ Coop....
I have a Garmin Nuvi 255wt and its not the newst or best model out but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Its a great nav tool. It will show speed limits of the road you're on including your current speed. It alerts me when there are known speed traps/speed cameras in the area. It has a list of shopping places (if you need something but dont know where anything is) same thing for restraunts, parks, attractions. It will alert you to congestion in areas real time. Matter of fact it shows car accidents as an upside down car on the screen. Found that out during a local snow blizzard this winter. It will reroute you based on accidents or congestion.
On a seperate screen you can see how many miles you have driven with the unit on (like a Odometer) shows your average speed and logs your top speed. It has a fuel function for you to enter in fuel prices and it will show you your operating cost.
As mentioned before, these things are darn slick and to NOT have one is crazy.
I saw in one of the car mags that one of the radar detector companies (I think it was Escort) now has a full function GPS unit with built in active radar detection capabilities. That would be pretty slick as long as the nav features were equal to the Garmin unit, they might be, just dont know?!

Hehehe!! Well Dale told us the other day that he was trying to get his truck going so he could go to Panama City during spring break to take in the "scenery". I thought I'd give him a few pointers.
But seriously, I think either a Tom Tom or a Garmin are great products. My dad worked 2nd shift when my parents first married. They took off to Arkansas in the middle of the night once. When he got to Memphis, the rain and fog was unbelievable and he just followed the lights of the car in front of him. He couldn't stay awake and pulled off at a gas station and asked the guy how to get back back on the road and over into Arkansas. That guy at the gas station said "Man, you ARE in Arkansas!!!". He crossed the biggest river in the land and didn't even know it!! (he'd kill me if he knew I told that story) Moral of the story: a Tom Tom could have saved him a lifetime of ridicule.
