Rebuilding Top End on my 2005 6.0L PowerStroke

Well i hope the title isn't to misleading. I'm kind of rebuilding the top end of my 2005 6.0L PowerStroke that i just purchased with 265k. I started with just going to do a BulletProof EGR and Oil Cooler replacement. I figured since i had it tore down to that point, i might as well have the heads cleaned up and checked since the intake side was quite nasty. I plan on putting a lot of info in this thread as far as part numbers and so on as long as its not a problem. I have the heads off and plan on replacing all gaskets/orings along way.

In the meantime i have a couple questions on parts before i put in another order ASAP.

First:
The Turbo Drain Tube. I was told the turbo was replaced around 100k ago. So far i have found one mounting bolt missing among other things. I'm going to attach a picture of the drain tube i have and i would appreciate if someone could tell me if this is the updated one.

Second:
I plan on getting the STC Kit. I got quoted 38.45 @ 10% over cost and i was told that it comes with the HPOP cover gasket. Could anyone verify that this sounds right even though i cannot provide a part number (sorry). As long as I do not drop any bolt's into the Engine, I shouldn't have to disconnect the Tranny? Is it as easy as removing the IPR valve, cover, pump and replacing said parts with the updated ones?

Third:
When putting the rods back in, does anyone prefill them with oil as to not have a dry start? Or would assembly lube take care of this until things get primed? Does hand cranking prime the oil system?

Fourth:
Can anyone name this exhaust? I thought the truck was stock but it looks like it has an aftermarket setup since the kitty is gone.

Pic of where it comes down from the turbo and goes from 3" to 4".

This is the only joint in the system...

Thanks in advance and i will continue to edit this post and hopefully be able to contribute a detailed guide with tons of info and pics to help others in the future.

That drain tube does not look aftermarket, or as you said an updated bigger one, no ideas on the exhaust, maybe someone did it in their drive way?

265,000 Miles woohoo

How much did you pay if you dont mind me asking?

It's a 05 Lariat CC LB SRW 4x4 in great shape and ran excellent despite the white smoke. Stole it in my opinoin. It was blowing tons of white smoke and the local dealership diagnosed it as a bad EGR but could not rule out a HG. I do have quite a few small leaks here and there to clean up. HG's and Heads turned out to be in great shape and i lucked out. How about that for an almost stock truck @ 265k with only 1 thing on the oasis report, i think it was some kind of sticker? Just picked the heads up and only got charged $60 bux for cleaning them up, pressure checking them and checking to make sure they were not warped. They did not need to machine them or do anything other than a dip in the hot tank.

Ya im basically just trying to see if that is the updated factory drain tube before i order another one since they dont have one in stock to compare. One thing that was wierd was, during my 70 gallons of distilled, restore and restore + flushing, It did not smoke at all. Somewhere into it I did unplug the EGR valve but i did plug it back in during the middle of it. Perhaps i needed to disconnect the battery's to clear the code's so that it would open back up to let coolant/water back into the intake to smoke? Or would just plugging it back in make it operational again? Not sure if it was just the ELC coolant that really fogs up once burned but i found that wierd during all that. I didn't get my AE until i was 50+ gallons deep and the thermostat was out. EOT and ECT didnt get above 124F with the outside temp around 15-20.

Things that i noticed while disassembly:

One Turbo mounting bolt was missing but i later found it between the oil cooler and HPOP cover, just hanging out..

FICM nuts and im guessing somekind of rubber isolation bumpers missing on the side closest to the front bumper.

Exhaust Manifold bolts on CYL's 1 & 2 where barely snugged, while the rest of them were nice and tight.

Seemed like Factory TTY Head Bolts on CYL 7 & 8 where not as snug as the rest but were plenty tight. But i did loose'n them up in opposite direction of the torque sequence in a 3 step process. Not sure if that was needed but it made me feel better only being a e-mechanic! LOL

Would my AE with Ford Package allow me to figure out which stragety i have? Picked up some ARP's on ebay around 400 shipped and Victor Reiz HG's for around 115 shipped (i heard that they are the same as the black onyx, just cheaper?) They were around 150+ tax at CarQuest.

also there is no isolators on the ficm for an 05 truck, they are only used on 03 engines with the aluminum ficm bracket.
