I'm going to look at a 300 today which is coming out of a baggage lift from an airport, it's got 600 hours on it (or I'm guessing between 40-50,000 miles on it). I'm going to be putting it in a 1956 ford f600 with a 5 speed and 6.88 rear end.
Was a 272 y block in the f600, whatta you guys think? Will this be the workhorse I'm looking for?
And also, the guy says it's the "industrial inline 6" what's the difference?
Ive wondered about those industrial motors. Ive seen them in those airport tuggers and carts. I know they are governed or geared way down. I cant imagine anything internal is different. I looked into getting a long block once from a supplier that sold the 4.9's to the airports and they said it would work in my truck. But thats just what the guy said, who knows.
Wow, with 6.88 gears, it would have a rather slow top speed, but my god would it pull........
I've been told that the industrial (stationary powerplant) 300 can be used in a truck, but it may need a carb or dist swap. Most industrial engines run at a preset RPM, so they lack the accel pump in the carb or advance mechanism in the dist.
If the engine is installed in any type of vehicle, they usually have a carb/dist similar to those used for on-road use engines, but could have some sort of RPM/speed limiter tied into one or both items. Otherwise, they are very similar to the engines used in pickups and F600-F900 series trucks. Intake/exhaust manifolds may also need to be swapped, depending on what type of vehicle it been used in.
Well, for $300, and an absolutely pristine looking engine and auto tranny. I'm not sure how I can go wrong... comes with a working transmission, and a pretty dang intense hydraulic pump. I'm not sure if it has a pto box on the tranny box, I was a little too excited to with the hydro pump and inside of the block.
I have heard that the hydraulic pump will suck some of the power from the engine even when I'm just driving down the road. I'm kinda thinking I very well may try to mount it on a log splitter with like a 10 or 15 horse gas engine.
