95 f 250 sputters when i press the gas doesn't want to move faster

my 95 f 250 is a 351w auto 4x4 245k miles.anyway on my way home tonight I was about to go up a hill and I stepped on the gas to pick up speed from about 10 mph and the truck just sputterd and didnt move any faster. It seemed the more I give it the gas the more it would sputter and slow down for some reason.when i got to the top of the hill the road is flat and it did the same thing on the flat road. The more i step on the gas the more the truck would sputter and not wanna move any faster and would kinda buck a little the more I steped on the gas and would sputter. It didnt seem like the tranny to me it was very strange.didnt seem like the converter cause i had a few converts go on me and they never gave me loss of power with the sputtering issue.only thing I did to the truck in the last few weeks is I had a shop put in a new front gas tank cause the old one was leaking and a new battery.what you think is making my truck do this?thanks

Mine did that while I was coming home from work. Check the IAC, and the TPS first.

start by changing the fuel filter.A bad fuel filter can cause an engine to hesitate, or stumble, if the filter restricts the flow of fuel into a vehicle's engine.if you havent changed it in a while if that doesnt work then give it a tune up new spark plugs new wires cap and rotor.and if that doesnt work try air intake cleaner into the air intake remove the plastic hose have a buddy spray it in the ait intake then rev up engine watch black crap come out.try it in that order.good luck.

star by checking the codes. i have learned this from my truck problems and the members on the board. i also agree on the fuel filter because it is cheap and half way simple. never can go wrong with that. then i would put a vacuum gauge and a fuel pressure gauge on and see what type of numbers you are getting.

Check your ignition, could be bad spark at plugs, or even connection through the wires. Could also be a faulty injector spraying a stream rather than nice spray. check/change fuel filter as some of the guys stated. could be clogged up... check your fuel pump as well. Any of these is a start. good luck

hey guys I put a new fuel filter on today what a job it was to get it off.The fuel filter was bad when i shook it,it made the rattle sound so it was toast. After I put it on, the truck didnt wanna start up it made no sound when I turned the key so I firgure it still had to get the gas in the new filter so i turned the key again nothing.so I changed the gas tank over to the back gas tank and it started up.I let the truck run for a good 10 minutes on the back tank i stayed running as soon as I changed it over to the front gas tank it died.sometimes it starts on the front tank but most of the time it doesnt so im guessing the front tank has a bad fuel pump.but would a bad fuel pump do what the truck did to me last nite?It would sputter and not wanna move any faster when I pressed on the gas to pick up speed maybe the front fuel pump was on its way out last nite and thats what it was doing when it was going im not sure?.like I said as soon as ai change over to the front tank in my driveway the truck dies.so i guess ill take the truck for a ride on the back gas tank and see how it goes cause today it dies on the front tank sitting running in my driveway.kinda strange though i just had a new gas tank put on the front last week wonder if the damge something or it was on it way out anway.

If when you press harder on the gas it makes things worse, I usually find that is a fuel-delivery problem. So, yes, a bad fuel pump will cause the symptoms you described.

I'm having a similar problem with my '96 F150 302. The only difference is with the sputtering there is a clicking or ticking sound that comes with the sputtering. It started after the house got flooded along with the truck. It's not the cat converters because I replaced them both.

Thanks for the hints to fix the problem. It's been bothering me for a long time. Good luck with your truck and thanks to everyone.
