I'm pretty sure there isn't any mystery these days. F11 = 4x, F10 = 2x. There are a lot of conversions out there.

I'm comfortable these days in the fact mine has to be a conversion. It's still the sexiest damn 4x4 in town (and there are a LOT in town).

It may be a M-H conversion, but did not have any instruction plates. It is an F10 vin.

I can't say that any of that is true or not, but it seemed plausable enough at the time - except that there is no hint of the forestry service green paint *anywhere."
F10 = F100 2WD

Look on the Warranty Plate for the COLOR code, post what it is. Also look on this plate for the DSO code, post that also.

IF the truck was ordered special by the US Gov't, and was painted a non standard color, there will be no COLOR code.

IF the truck was a 'Domestic Special Order," there will be a 4 numbered DSO code.

IF not a special order, there will be no DSO code of any kind, just a blank space.

1961/62 F Series trucks do not have a DSO code unless a special order. 1963 and later all have a DSO code which is two numbers if an RPO (Regular Production Order) or 6 numbers if a special order.

btw: Fullerton is just 'over the hill' from Hacienda Heights, so I could swing on by and take a look-see.

Thanks for the info guys. It adds to my confusion. I have a 62 unibody that I've owned for 26 years. I bought it in Idaho in 1986. It is a 4 wd and the vin is an F11. From the thread, unibodies did not come from Ford as a 4 wd but if they did the vin would be F11/F26. Help!

The VIN I used is on the door of the glove box. I assume it is for the body?

not hard to swap the glove box door over when you swap bodys, to keep your vin correct.

I'm just guessing mind you, but that would be my guess. Someone had a 4x4 and wanted a unibody.

In my case, someone had a unibody and wanted a 4x4. I tracked it down to a dealer in Ohio that did the conversion.

Whats with the 9 in front of the vin? Are you sure you read that vin correctly?

That was on my insurance card. I'll check the truck when I get home from work. Thanks

Thanks. The number is F10 and not 9F11. I don't know how that was missed.

An f10 indicates a 2wd truck an f11 a 4wd. So it looks like your insurance card is just indicating a 4wd truck where your truck vin appears to show it to have been converted to 4wd.

It should be in two places on the passanger side frame rail. Possibly between the core support and the front axle stamped on top of the frame rail. Next would be toward the front of the cab or under the cab. On my 65 4wd truck it was between the core support and the shock tower mounting bracket. The number under the cab is stamped on top of the rail too. Be prepared to scrape and scratch to find that number probably coated in rust and who knows what all. Good luck.
