Sorry about the poor quality photo of the decal. I found a better pic:

That is cool! The Air Force has base historians at most all bases. Some were eager to help me while others brushed me aside. I'd start looking for a Coast Guard historian. Most of my info came from retired personnel though. I'm guessing there's a Coast Guard site or forum for retired members. These guys will help you out most. Just keep searching and don't give up. I ran into many walls but eventually was able to get over them :-) Please keep me updated!

First message didn't show as going then appeared. Well here's my spiel a second time around worded slightly different :-)

The info is out there somewhere. Please keep me abreast on your progress!

Thanks Hardly! I didn't know about base historians. I will check into that. My truck came from the CG base in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. It was "retired" from service in 1958; the same year as my Dad. The truck was only 6 years old at the time, and already pretty much rusted and worn out. My Dad paid $42.50 for it.

My apologies to LOWFOMOCO for hijacking his excellent thread.

That's cool! Are there photos of your truck on here? If not maybe you can start a thread or add them here. I'd like to see this thread come back alive regarding the 1951 Ford. Wondering if this truck ever surfaced? I couldn't figure out if it was now in California or Mexico.

Hardly, there are LOTS of pictures of my truck on this site. To access them, click on my user name--"52 USCG Panel". This will take you to my personal profile page. From here, click on, "show all albums". You will find lots of pictures here documenting the work done and some of the personal history I have with my truck. If you click on "statistics", you can access the threads I started as the restoration of my truck progressed. I'm a teacher and not a mechanic as you will discover, and I needed lots of help along the way. My threads demonstrate the wonderful help and support that was provided for my project by FTE members.

As someone with the wrong brand of truck, (LOL), you have stumbled upon a great site and a great group of people. You will, I'm sure, find us helpful and welcoming even if your truck doesn't say Ford on the front. Thank you for your interest and for sharing with us the story of how you restored your Chevy AF truck. You put a lot of time and effort into it and it shows.

Checked them out. You're doing things the way I would. So many opinions on restoring these old military rigs. Just like you I appreciate all of them!
